The City Council of the City of Newport Beach met in adjourned regular
session in the City Council Chambers at the City Hall at the hour of 9 o'clock
a. m. on above date with Mayor Gordon.presiding.
Roll Call The roll was called, the following Councilmen answering present; Reed, •
Claire, Allen, Brown, Gordon. Absent, Councilmen None.
On motion of Councilman Allen, seconded by Councilman Claire and
carried, the reading of the minutes of the previous meeting was dispensed with.
COMMUNICATIONS
Petition Certain citizens residing on Carnation Avenue, Corona del Mar, presented
truck parking a petition complaining of parking of a roofing truck and tar wagon on that street
on Carnation Ave. and said to be owned by Roy A. Brown of 433 Carnation Ave. The petition was read,
and on motion of Councilman Claire, seconded by Councilman Brown and carried, the
matter was referred to a Committee of the Whole.
Recess On motion of Councilman Claire, seconded by Councilman Reed and carried,
a recess was taken awaiting the arrival of representatives of the South Coast
Company who were to meet with the Council In connection with obtaining an option
to lease certain City owned land forfthe, construction of United States Government '
defense craft.
NEW BUSINESS
South Coast Co. On motion of Councilman Claire, seconded by Councilman Allen and carried,
request for the regular order of business was resumed. Whereupon the South-Coast Company
option ld lease presented a request for an option to lease certain City owned land, known as the
City property City Camp Grounds, for a period of the duration of the emergency and long enough
thereafter to complete any unfinished contracts with the United States Government.
The matter was discussed at length, it being the consensus of the Council that
more time should be taken to consider the proposition.•
Res. 2553 Resolution No. 2553 was presented, being a resolution authorizing the
cancelling certain City /Auditor and Tax-Collector to cancel all taxes on certain property in the
taxes City of Newport Beach. On motion of Councilman Claire, seconded by Councilman
Brown, the resolution was adopted by the following vote, to -wit:
AYES, COUNCILMEN: Reed, Claire, Allen, Brown, Gordon.
NOES, COUNCILMEN: None.
ABSENT, COUNCILMEN: None.
