SPECIAL MEETING
Newport Beach, April 27, 1942.
The City Council of the City of Newport Beach met in Special Session
on above date at the hour of 10:00 a. m., with Mayor Hall presiding.
The roll was called, the following Councilmen answering present:
Gordon, Allen, Isbell, Reed, Hall.. Absent, Councilmen: None.
The Call for which the Special Meeting was called, was read, and on
motion of Councilman Allen,.seconded by Councilman Gordon and carried, same
was ordered filed.
The purpose for which the Special.Meeting was called being the
negotiation of a lease between the City of Newport Beach and the United States
Navy for an observation post site .located on the south side of Ocean Boulevard
and Poinsettia Avenue, Corona del Mar. City Engineer Patterson explained the
matter of the location desired by the Navy and the type of buildings proposed
to be erected thereof, the cost of which is to be borne by the United States
Navy.
It was suggested by Councilman Gordon that the term of the lease
be for the duration of the war only, whereupon it was moved by Councilman
Gordon, seconded by Councilman Allen and carried, that the City Engineer
be authorized to communicate to the Naval authorities the approval of the
City Council for the lease subject to its termination at the end of the war.
There being no further business to come before the Council for
which the Call was issued, it was moved by Councilman Allen, seconded by
Councilman Isbell and carried, that an adjournment be taken to Thursday,
April 30, at the hour of 7:30 p. m.
