The City Council of:the City of Newport Beach met in
regular session in the City Council Chambers at the City Hall
at the hour of 4 o'clock p.m. on ,above-,date with Mayor Reed
presiding.
The roll was called, the following Councilmen
answering present: Allen, Isbell, Robertson, Siler, Reed.
The Mayor asked if any of the Councilmen or anyone
in the audience wished the minutes of the previous meeting,
or any part thereof read; no one responded and the reading of
the minutes was dispensed with.

was not in violation of the law and on motion of Councilman
Allen, seconded by Councilman Siler and carried, the license

COMMUNICATIONS
The application of J. S. Barrett for a permit to
install underground storage for petroleum products at Port
Orange in Tract 919, having been approved by the Fire Chief,
was on motion of Councilman Siler, seconded by Councilman
Robertson and carried, granted.
The application of Shell Oil Company for a permit
to install underground storage for petroleum products at King's
Landing, Lot 5, Tract 815, having been.approved by the Fire
Chief, was -on motion of Councilman Siler, seconded by Council-
man Robertson and carried, granted.
The.application of Edmond C. Cutler for a license to
conduct a cafe at 101 - 15th Street, was on motion of Councilman
Allen, seconded by Councilman Siler and carried, granted, subject
to the approval of the Health Officer.
the application of George Candoso and Tony Pappas for
a license for a cafe at 410-32nd Street was on motion of Council-
man Allen, seconded by Councilman Isbell and carried, granted,
subject to the approval of the Health Officer.
A letter from Ralph P. Maskey regarding a meeting of
the Special Committee of the Chamber of Commerce in which the
proposed plan for the improvement of Central Avenue was
unanimously endorsed was on motion of Councilman Allen, seconded
by Councilman Siler and carried, ordered filed.
In connection with the improvement of Central Avenue,
the Council was addressed by Ralph P. Maskey, Volney Hay, Jr.
and Louis Vilelle, each offering certain suggestions regarding
the improvement.
A petition bearing upwards of 50 names of property
owners in the Seashore Colony District protestion the application
of George Dubarry for the re-zoning of certain property of that
section was on motion of Councilman Allen, seconded by Councilman
Siler and carried, referred to the Planning Commission.
The letter of J. A. Beek, Secretary of the State
Senate, together with a copy of Senate Joint Resolution No. 12
pertaining to State tide lands was on motion of Councilman Allen
seconded by Councilman Siler and carried, ordered filed.
The appointments of Val C. Burch, Roy B. Suhr, and
John S. Dubbeck as Merchant Patrolmen were on motion of Council-
man Allen, seconded by Councilman'Robertson and carried, confirmed
NEW BUSINESS
On motion of Councilman Allen, seconded by Councilman
Siler the Mayor and City Clerk were authorized to execute on
behalf of the City of Newport Beach a certain conditional
contract by and between the City of Newport Beach and Theodore
Robins for the purchase of a Ford truck chassis and cab with
a trade in allowance by the following vote, to wit:

Bids submitted for the sale of City owned property
were opened,and read, the highest bid received being as follows:

On motion of Councilman Allen, seconded by Councilman Isbell,
the Mayor and City Clerk were authorized to execute on behalf
of the City of Newport Beach a grant deed to the above party and
carried by the following roll call vote, to wit:

On motion of Councilman Isbell, seconded by Councilman
Robertson and carried, the-Clty Attorney was instructed to prepare
the lease by the City to the chamber of Commerce for a certain
portion of the Library property.
