May 15th, 1945
The City Council of the City of Newport Beach met in a
regular adjourned session in the City Council Chambers at the City
Hall at the hour of 4 o'clock P. M. on the above date.
The roll was called, the following Councilmen answering
present; Greeley, Isbell, Blue and Drake.
Mayor Drake asked-if any of the Councilmen or anyone in
the audience wished the minutes of the previous meeting, or any part
thereof, read; no one responded and the reading of the minutes was
dispensed with.

REPORTS OF STANDING COMMITTEES - None
COMMUNICATIONS
The application of the Seaboard Equipment Corp. to install Apn'kn Seaboard Equip -
a fifty gallon gasoline buggy outside of the building at 1205 Coast ment Co. granted.
Highway, Newport Beach, California, approved by the Fire Department,
was granted on motion of Councilman Isbell, seconded by Councilman
Greeley and carried.
The letter of Granger Hyler regarding the City zoning ordi- Granger Hyler's letter
nance was referred to the City Attorney for answering on motion of re zoning ordinances
Councilman Isbell, seconded by Councilman Greeley and carried. referred to City Att'y.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS
Ordinance No. 577 amending the Meter Ordinance came up for Ordinance No. 577
the second reading. Councilman Isbell moved that the Ordinance be amending Meter Ordinan
adopted , the motion was seconded by Councilman Greeley and carried adopted.
by the following vote, to -wit;

NEW BUSINESS
Councilman Isbell moved the adoption of a resolution being a Quitclaim Deed in
resolution authorizing the Mayor and City Clerk to execute on behalf of favor of C. C. Barn -
the City of Newport Beach the following quitclaim deed to the following house.
person and covering the following described property:
C. C. Barnhouse Lot 16, Block 115, SECTION B as shown on,a
Map recorded in Book 4, page 27 of Miscella-
neous Maps, records of Orange Count, California
L. Wm. Covert, Street Superintendent, requested authority Employment of Thomas
to transfer Clarence Lindberg from the Water Department to the Street A. Shorb, Charles E.
Department at the same rate of pay, effective date April 29, 1945, Cox and Darwin L.
and for authority to employ the following men in the Street Department, Ballew granted and
classification laborer at the rate of $163.00 per month, ($.SS )per hour)transfer of Clarence
Lindberg to Street
Thomas A. Shorb Effective Date April 26, 145 Department.
Charles E. Cox " " May 1, 1945
Darwin L. Ballew " " May 1, 1945
On motion of Councilman Isbell, seconded by Councilman Greeley
the Street Superintenden's request was granted and carried by -the
following vote, to -wit:
AYES, COUNCILMEN: Greeley, Isbell, Blue and Drake
NOES, COUNCILMEN: None
ABSENT COUNCILMEN: Robertson.
Mr. Sailor's request for corrections on the Water Department's Corrections on Water
records was tabled on motion of Councilman Blue, seconded by Councilman Dept.'s records
Isbell and carried. tabled.

Corp. Grant Deeds trans- On motion of Councilman Greeley, seconded by Councilman
ferring rights & easements Blue, the Corporation Grant Deeds transferring easements and /or
Balboa Coves district to rights in the Balboa Coves district to the City of Newport Beach
City approved. Resolution was approved, and Resolutions Nos. 3590 and 3590 -A granted, and the

State'Park Commission On motion of Councilman Isbell, seconded by Councilman
lease referred to City Greeley and carried, the lease agreement made between the City and
Attorney. the State of California, State Park Commission, was referred to
City Attorney Thompson for further negotiations with the State
Park Committee.
STATEMENT OF CITY CLERK
I, C. K. Priest, City Clerk of Newport Beach in Orange
County, California,do hereby certify and declare that a municipal
election was duly and regularly held in the City of Newport Beach
on May 17th, 1945, and that the result of said election so held
was as follows:
(a:) That the whole number of votes cast in said City
was 671.
(b) That the names of the candidates for the office of
Freeholder, together with the number of votes given to each of said
candidates in each voting precinct in the City of Newport Beach,
together with.the whole number of votes Which they received in the

It appearing from a canvass of the vote that Candidate Mendell L.
Calkins and Candidate Ralph P. Maskey tied at 333 votes each, and both Candi-
dates being present at the Council Chambers, the City Council determined the
tie by lot, as provided by law, and declared that Candidate Ralph P. Maskey
was duly elected as the 15th Freeholder.

Resolution No. 3592, being a resolution DECLARING THE
RESULT OF ELECTION, held in the City of Newport Beach on Monday,
the 17th day of May, 1948, as required by law, was presented and
on motion of Councilman Isbell, seconded by Councilman Greeley,.the
resolution was adopted by the following roll call vote, to -wit:
AYES, COUNCILMEN: Greeley, Isbell, Blue -!and Drake.
NOES, COUNCILMEN: None
ABSENT COUNCILMEN: Robertson.
ADJOURNMENT:
On motion of Councilman Isbell, seconded by Councilman Greeley and
carried, an adjournment was taken to 4:00 P.M. on May 24, 1948.
