May 26, 1949
The City Council of the City of Newport Beach met in 6pecial
session,in response to the call of Mayor Drake, in the City Council
Chambers at the City Hall at the hour of 10:00 o'clock A.M.
The roll was called, the following Councilmen answering
present: Greeley, Robertson, Isbell and Drake. Councilman Blue
being absent.
The City Clerk stated that the special meeting had been
called by the Mayor for consideration and action upon Resolution No.
389 of the Planning Commission, being a resolution approving a two
foot front yard variance for Doris A. Granicher at Lot 9, Block 3,
Section 1, Balboa Island.
Mayor Drake stated that Miss Granicher had told him she would
tear down the existing old house in the rear of the property and replace
it with a garage if the setback variance was granted. If it were not
granted, she said, her view would be handicapped because a five.foot
setback variance had previously been granted for an adjoining lot.
Miss Granicher confirmed this statement from the floor, stating that
she needed the house in the rear to live in until the proposed new
building in f ront was completed.
On motion of Councilman Greeley, seconded by Councilman
Isbell, the council concurred with the Planning Commission in granting
