The City Council of the City of Newport Beach met in regular
session in the City Council Chambers at the City Hall at the hour of 7:30
o'clock.
The roll was called. the following Councilmen answering present:
Greeley, Robertson, Blue, and Drake; Councilman Isbell being absent.
The Mayor then asked if any of the Councilmen or anyone in the
audience wished the minutes of the previous meeting, or any part thereof,
read; no one responded and the reading of the minutes was dispensed with.
On motion of Councilman Robertson, seconded by Councilman
Greeley, certain Demands, having been approved by the Finance Committee,
and signed by the t`layor and City Clerk, were approved and ordered paid
by the following vote, to -wit:

A letter from Hay Langenheim, Executive- Secretary of the
Newport Harbor Chamber of Commerce, was read, stating that the trophies
for the 1949 Flight of the Snowbirds will be presented to the winners
on Sunday July 31Qt in front of the Balboa Pavilion, and stating that
the Mayor would present the three trophies presented by the City. On
motion of .Councilman Greeley, seconded by Councilman Blue and carried,
the letter was acknowledged and filed.

The City Manager requested that an Ordinance be drafted desig-

The request of the Irvine Co. for the metering of two water
services to cover areas within the Bayshores Tract not at present
€annexed to the City, was referred to the City Manager, with the sug-
gestion that some arrangement be made within a six months time limit.
The City Manager was also instructed to arrange for Ohe provision of
water to these areas on an agreed compensation pending the completion
of annexation. The Irvine Co. request was granted under these condi-
tions on motion of Councilman Blue, seconded by Councilman Robertson,

The specifications for twelve ornamental light standards for

to advertise for bids to be received at the next meeting, by the following
vote, to -wit:

On motion of Councilman Greeley, seconded by Councilman Ordinance 607 referred
Robertson and carried, Ordinance 607 was referred to the Planning to Planning Commission.
Commission.
The City Attorney stated that the -problem created by the Ice
Machine at Marine Avenue and the North Speedway did not constitute a
public nuisance and was essentially a traffic problem for the police
to maintain a free flow of traffic. The Mayor then referred the peti-
tion to the City Manager for police action.
Mayor Drake extended the congratulations of the Council, to
Councilman Blue on his birthday.
