The City Council of the City of Newport Beach met in regular
session in the City Council Chambers at the City Hall at the hour of
7:30 o'clock P.M '
The roll was called the following Councilmen cnsvrerinr present:
Greeley, Robertson, Blue and Drake. Councilman Isbell being absent.

An offer from the Newport-Balbo Press to publish the City's legal
advertising for the current fiscal year at the rate of ;;1.00 per inch, was
received from Ben Reddick Publisher, The ,publisher of "The Ensign" speaking
from the floor stated that his ne?•rspaper would be eliible to carry legal
adve-rtisin within the next few days and. requested that bids be asked. On
motion of Councilman Blue, seconded by Councilman Greeley, the City Clerk-
was instructed to advertise for ':yids for the publication of the City's legal
advertising. The motion was carried by the following vote, to -wit:

A petition signed by twenty residents and property owners in
the vicinity of Fernando and Cypress Streets, Balboa, requesting that the
City acquire the beach area known as the "Hut Beach ", being that portion
of the beach facing the bay between Fernando and Cypress Streets, accom-
panied by a communication from Idr. D. E. Wood, urging that the beach in
that area be cleared for ;public use, eas presented, and on motion of
Councilman Greeley, seconded by Councilman Robertson, the communication
and_ the petition were tabled. City EnZineer, J. 3. �:1ebb, stated that
this section of beach *-ras private property.
Resolution No. 101 of the Planning Commission approving an
amendment of Ordinance No. 525 to permit the Building, Height Limit in
C -1 zones to exceed'the present 35 feet,or two stories, height limit;
' provided a Use Permit is obtained. from the Planning Commission, was read.
It was accompanied by a letter from 7, alter M. Lon ;moor, Chairman of the
Planning Commission. On motion of Councilman Robertson, the City Council
concurred with the Ply ;nnind Commission and the City Attorney was instructed
to draft the requested amendment to Ordinance No. 525. The motion was
seconded by Councilman Greeley and carried by the following; vote, to -wit:

The City Attorney presented Ordinance No. 609, being an ordinance

CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH AND I'fAKING THE RULES AND RGGULATICNS OF THE
STATE BOARD OF EQUALIZATION PERTAINING TO SALES AND USE TAX AND
EFFECTIVE OCTOBER 1, 1949 APPLICABLE TO CITY SALES AND USE TAX.
bringing the City Sales Tax Ordinance into accord with the amended State
Sales and Use Tax Rules and Regulations. On motion of Councilman Robert-
son, seconded by Councilman Greeley, the ordinance was introduced and
given first reading as an urgency measure by the following vote, to -wit:
