Roll Call In the absence of a Mayor, the City Clerk called for Isbell elected nominations of Mayor pro tem and on motion of Councilman Finch, Mayor pro tem seconded by Councilman Bennett, Councilman Isbell was nominated and elected by the following roll call vote, to -wit: AYES, COUNCILMEN: Finch, Smith, Bennett, & Isbell NOES, COUNCILMEN: None ABSENT, COUNCILMEN: Miller Councilman Isbell thereupon assumed the chair and de- Minutes approved clared the minutes of the preceding meeting approved as written. Dept. for a 40 hour work week, was read. Councilman Finch pointed out that certain of the city departments were now working a 44 hour week. The City Manager estimated that it would cost $10,000 annually to institute the 40 hour week for the Police Department, and approximately $22,000 annually to institute the 40 hour week in the Street Department. On motion of Councilman Finch, seconded , by Councilman Bennett and carried, the City Manager was instructed to investigate and report on general adoption of a 40 hour week and ways and means for securing additional revenue to meet the cost. UNFINISHED BUSINESS Hearing, Res. of Int. The City Clerk announced that this was the time and place 4015 vacation portion set in Resolution of Intention No. 4015-for a hearing on the Ocean Fro. Cedar - Walnut closing up, vacation, and abandonment of a portion of a street designated as the Ocean Front between Cedar and Walnut Street. ' Mayor pro tem Isbell declared the hearing open and asked if any written cibmmunications had been received.- The Clerk reported that none had been received, and there were no protests from the floor. The Mayor thereupon declared the hearing closed. On motion of Councilman Smith, seconded by Councilman Bennett, Ordinance No. 677 was passed to second reading by the following roll call vote, to -wit: AYES, COUNCILMEN: Smith, Finch, Bennett, & Isbell NOES, COUNCILMEN: None ABSENT, COUNCILMEN: Miller The City Engineer reported that he had checked the bids received for the construction of the proposed new fire station and recommended that the award of contract be delayed for two weeks to permit further checking. On motion of Councilman Smith, seconded by Councilman Finch and carried, award of contract was set for December 22nd. The City Engineer reported that Bay Concrete Company was low bidder in the amount of $1,205.40 for the construction of a concrete retaining wall in the West Newport Park area. On motion of Councilman Finch, seconded by Councilman Smith, Resolution No. 4020, being a resolution awarding the contract to Bay Concrete Company for construction of a concrete Petaining wall at the West Newport Park was passed on the following roll call vote, to -wit: AYES, COUNCILMEN: Smith, Finch, Bennett, & Isbell NOES, COUNCILMEN: None ABSENT COUNCILMEN: Miller The City bngineer recommended acceptance of the bid of James I. Gallacher in the amount of $7,265.90 for the construction of a sanitary sewer in Corona del Mar, that being the only bid received. On motion of Councilman Finch, seconded by Councilman Smith, Resolution No. 4021, being a resolution awarding a contract to James I. Gallacher for the construction of sanitary sewer was passed on the following roll call vote, to -wit: AYES, COUNCILMEN: Smith, Finch, Bennett, & Isbell Reading of Ord. 677 waived.
