February 8, 1954
The City Council of the City of Newport Beach met in
regular session in the Council Chamber of the City Hall at the
hour of 7*30 p.m.
The roll was called, the following members answering Roll Call
presents Smith, Finch, Isbell, Bennett, and Miller.
Upon motion of Councilman Isbell, seconded by Coun- Minutes approved
cilman Finch and carried, reading of the minutes of the pre-
vious meeting was waived and the minutes were approved as
written.
Regular monthly demands were approved and ordered paid, Demands approved
having been approved by the Finance Committee, on motion of
Councilman Isbell, seconded by Councilman Finch and carried by
the following roll call vote, to wits

The application of Richard W. Loveland for a license
to operate a laundromat at 308 Newport Boulevard was granted
on motion of Councilman Bennett, seconded by Councilman Finch
and carried.
The application of C. V. Lamb for a license to sell
vacuum cleaners house to house was referred to the Police
Department on motion of Councilman Finch, seconded by Coun-
cilman Bennett and carried.
The application of Joseph Tamburr for a license to
operate a coffee shop at 307 Main Street, Balboa, was granted
on motion of Councilman Bennett, seconded by Councilman Isbell
and carried.
The application of the American Mission Army for an
exempt license to solicit funds and distribute literature was
referred to the City Attorney on motion of Councilman Isbell,
seconded by Councilman Bennett and carried.

A contract between the City of Newport Beach and the
Standard Oil Company of California covering the purchase of
oil from the City's wells was presented by the City Attorney
and on motion of Councilman Isbell, seconded by Councilman
• Bennett, Resolution No. 4205, being a resolution authorizing

The City Attorney presented an amendment to the Elliott
Contract permitting the location of oil tanks in a canyon in
the vicinity of the City °s oil wells. On motion of Councilman
Isbell, seconded by Councilman Bennett, Resolution No. 4206,
being a resolution authorizing the execution of the amendment
was adopted by the following roll call vote, to wits

Tire bids held over. The City Manager reported that informal bids had been
received from three firms for the supplying of tires to the
City for the ensuing year and that the bid of the Dutton firm
of Santa Ana was low.
Adjournment
On motion of Councilman Bennett, seconded by Councilman
Smith and carried, award of the contract was deferred until the
next meeting for investigation of recapping facilities available
to the low bidder.
On motion of Councilman Isbell, seconded by Councilman
Bennett and carried, the meeting was adjourned sine die.
