The City Council of the City of Newport Beach met in •
adjourned regular session at the hour of 10:00 a.m. in the
Council Chamber of the City Hall. '
The roll was called, the following members answering
Roll Call present: Smith, Miller, Bennett, and Hill, Councilman
Broering being absent.
COMMUNICATIONS:
Letters protesting the Letters from Mr. & Mrs. H. J. Lorenz, Mr. & Mrs. Anton
mooring of the bait barge Lopizich, Mrs. James B. Stoddard, and Leroy E. and Ruth Fay,
"Iwo Jima" off CDM beach. protesting the mooring of the ".Iwo Jima" bait barge at
Corona del Mar, were read.
Councilman Broering entered the meeting at 10:10 a.m.
Previous couna.l action re- On motion of Councilman Smith, the previous action of
scinded & barge ordered the Council granting a temporary permit to the barge, was re-
removed. scinded and the barge was ordered removed on the grounds that
it had failed to comply with the conditions set forth in the
application for permit. After some discussion, the motion was
seconded by Councilman Miller and carried; Councilman Bennett
voting 'No'. •

an R -2 district at 901 Ocean Blvd., Corona del Mar, having
been put over from the last meeting was again presented.
On motion of Councilman Miller, seconded by Councilman '
Bennett, the council concurred with the Planning Commission
In granting the variance by the following roll call vote, to -wit:
AYES, COUNCILMEN: Miller, Bennett, Hill.
NOES, COUNCILMEN: Smith and Broering
ABSENT COUNCILMEN: None
The request of the Balboa Improvement Association for
an appropriation of $1000 for the purchase of fireworks for

Councilman Smith moved that the appropriation be denied
and the motion died for lack of a second.

ABSENT COUNCILMEN: None
Jess Skeen application to re- The application of Jess Skeen for a permit to reinstall

The City Manager reported that in conference with the

The City Attorney reported that he had won his first

Mayor Hill expressed the Council's appreciation of Mr.
Penney's voluntary service and Mrs. Hill suggested that Attorney
Karl L. Davis be appointed City Attorney.
