Application for License The City Attorney presented the Application for License of
of Harry F. S. Lawrence Harry F. S. Lawrence to make investigations and to act as security
to make investigations consultants at 3345 Newport Boulevard, Newport Beach. Said business
and act as security_ is to be a branch office of "Harry F. S. Lawrence & Associates, &
consultants. International Detective Agency, Inc.!' The City Attorney stated that
the applicants had been interviewed and the references investigated.
.It was his opinion that the application should be approved. On motion '
of Councilman Wilder, seconded by Councilman Bennett and carried,
said license was approved.

subdivision No. 29. by the Council on March 26, 1956, the Planning Commission desired
L. J. Smith, referred to have the matter of the Application for Resubdivision No. 299 of

Commission for Commission. On motion of Councilman Wilder, seconded by Councilman

Adjourned regular The City Council of the City of Newport Beach met in adjourned
session. regular session in the Council Chambers of the City Hall at the
hour of 4.00 P.M.
Roll call. The roll was called, the following members being present.
Councilman Bennett, Wilder, MacKay, Stoddard, Higbie, Ridderhof,
and Hill. '
Canvass of returns The Mayor announced that this was the time and place for the

Consolidated Precinct Election Officers who had served on Consolidated Precinct
Boards dismissed. Boards 5, 8, IC, 119 12, and 17, were present in the audience to `

the boards for Consolidated Precincts 8 and 1C, as the Council

The Council canvassed the votes cast in the General Municipal
Election and during the canvass, Consolidated Precinct Boards 8
and 10 were authorized to correct their reports.
Absentee voters
The absentee voters ballots were then canvassed. The Clerk
ballots carjyassed
announced that there were 46 absent voters ballots issued, and
that 46 were returned and accounted for, one of which was
ineligible for counting.

Orange County, California, do hereby certify and declare that a general
municipal election was duly and regularly held in the City of Newport
Beach on April 10, 19567 and that the result of said election so held was

Shall Section 402 of the Charter of the City of Newport Beach be
amended to read.as follows? "Section 402. Compensation. Each .
member of the City Council shall receive as compensation for his
services the sum of Two Hundred Dollars per month, except the
member selected as Mayor, who shall receive as compensation for
his services the sum of Three Hundred Dollars per month. ?Absence
of a member of the City Council from all regular and special
meetings of the Council during any calendar month shall render
such member ineligible to receive such sum for such calendar
month. In addition, members of the City Council shall receive
reimbursement on order of the City Council for council authorized
traveling and other expenses when on official duty."

Irvine Company property for City and park purposes, providing the
.school District enters into a similar agreement with the Irvine

Discussion on R -4484.
On motion of Councilman Stoddard, seconded by Councilman
Wilder and carried, the City Manager was instructed to send a
copy of Resolution No. 4484 to The Irvine Company with a covering
letter stating the City's willingness to negotiate for the
purchase of the acreage offered by The Irvine Company in lieu of
the City's taking eminent domain proceedings. A discussion was
had and it was agreed to refer the above matter to the Planning
Commission. On motion of Councilman Ridderhof, seconded by
Councilman Stoddard and carried, it was:
Resolved as to RESOLVED that it is the recommendation of the City
