Roll Call:
The reading of the minutes of August 25,
1958, was waived, and the minutes were
approved as written and ordered filed.
COMMUNICATIONS:
1. The general announcement of Joint Inter-
im Committee meetings on highway
ngs problems, was ordered filed.
2. A notice regarding Public Utilities
Commission hearings on Case No. 6148,
Investigation on the Commission's own
motion concerning the proper treatment
for rate - fixing purposes, was referred
to the City Attorney.
3. A letter was ordered filed from C. Zook
.tteeSutton, President, California Roadside
in Council, regarding the scheduling of
Senate subcommittee hearings this fall on
the problem of billboard control.
4. A letter from Ralph P. Maskey, regarding
an ° °annoying road condition existing on
the west side of Newport Boulevard in the
.vd. 3400 block," was referred to the City
Manager and the Public Works Director for
study and report.
5. The Claim for Damages was presented of
Jane Holderby and Superior Insurance
Company, alleging damages in the amount
of $272.71, resulting from as automobile
falling into property at 721k Fernleaf,
Corona del Mar, which was undermined by
water during the construction of the
transmission mains for the reservoir.
Said claim was denied and the City Clerk'
action, in referring the matter to the
insurance carriers on August 28, 1958,
was confirmed.
The Claim for Damages was presented of
Mrs. Bruce Harden for injuries sustained
on August 16, 1958, resulting from a fall
over a rock while walking along a large
wooden beam near the jetty. Said claim
was denied and the City Clerk's action,
in referring the matter to the insurance
carriers on August 28, 1958, was con-
firmed.
7. A copy of a resolution of the Board of
Supervisors of Orange County, granting
the request of the City of Newport Beach
for consolidation of a Special Municipal
Election with the statewide General
Election to be held November 4, was pre-
sented and orde filed.

were presented and read in whole, or in

approval of said licenses: William B.
Fdoodroof, George Sherrill, and Fred
Engel.
Mr. Earl Stanley spoke in favor of the
granting of the licenses.
Said licenses were held over until
September 22d for further investigation.
The City Attorney was instructed to give
the Council a ruling re subject appli-
cations as to the requirements for Use
Permits, Business Licenses, and who is
responsible and who has the authority as
to moorings, use of the waters and
premises.
The City Manager was instructed to
consult with the Harbor Department re-
garding alleged pollution of the waters
and regarding the moorings.
ADDITIONL?L BUSINESS:
1. In connection with the PUBLIC HEARING,
continued from August 11, 1958, to
a- September 8, 1958, to determine whether
3ingthe buildings located on Lots 1 to 12,
rs inclusive, in Block 324, Lancasters
Addition, Newport Beach, should be con-
demned as a public nuisance, the City
Manager presented a letter from Noel
Singer explaining that the services of
Shoen Wrecking Company of Orange had
been obtained to complete the demolition
and the removal of the debris at the
premises,and that the job would be
completed on or before September 20,
1958. Said public hearing was continued
to September 22, 1958.

$300,000 for injuries sustained. Said
claim was denied and the City Clerk's
action, in referring the matter to the
insurance carriers, was confirmed.
