Heffernan, representing the owners of property immedi-
ately to the west of the Newport Harbor Yacht Club pro-

perty, and from Robert M. Allan, Jr., Commodore of
the Newport Harbor Yacht Club, each stating that progress
has been made toward an amicable solution to the pro-
posed abandonment of a portion of 8th Street at the Bay,
and requesting that consideration of the matter be. 'con-
tinued to a later date.
The matter was continued to June 26,, 1961.

ORDINANCE FOR INTRODUCTION:
(Agenda Item IV 1) A discussion was had regarding the
proposed introduction of an ordinance amending the Code
to provide for surfing between 6:00 P.M. and sunset, froin
30th Street westerly to the boundary of the City.
The following individuals participated in the discussion,
speaking in favor of opening up the area between 30th
Street and the westerly boundary of the City to permit
surfing between 6:00 P.M. and sunset: Richard
Wandrocke, George H. Boeck, Jr., and Robert Moore.
The following individuals spoke from the audience
opposing the proposals: Ralph Watson, T. A. Moser,
Duke Hogan, Mr. Nugent, and L. H. McBride.
The City Attorney was requested to reword the proposed
ordinance to amend the Code to permit surfing in the
area between 36th Street and 42d Street, Surfing. Area
No. 2, from 6:00 P.M. to sunset.
