Mayor Stoddard_ suggested.that the City Manager prepare a
letter directed to the Board. of Supervisors, urging that if the
Board. can find a way, to avoidAncreasing assessed valuations
of property„ as,much as 200. and 300% in a. single, year, that
the Board.do: so,. as .the present assessments are working a
hardship on -a great many, people. Councilman Lorenz statec
that it is .to .the advantage .. of the property owners to have the
Assessor' wait a five year period, sinceAhe property owners
then do not pay taxes on the increased assessed value. of the
property each of .the .four years prior to the. established in-
crease at the end of five years. A majority of the Council
agreed. with Mayor Stoddard that the: letter suggested. by him
should -be sent.
