Mayor Stoddard reported regarding, the. hearing held by the Board..of Supervisors in. connection. with protests against the high.increase in assessed valuation .. of properties : in- Newport Beach. He. stated that the. matter had resolved down to the question of determining what authority the Board has, and what the Assessor may do. aw a result of the protests. Ben Reddick spoke. from, the audience. The City, Attorney was tinstructed,to represent the City and its citizens before the Board of Supervisors, in the, assessment appeal actions. No. 5455, authorizing -the Mayor and City Clerk to execute. an agreement between the City and Southern California Edison,Company, Pacific Telephone and Telegraph - Company, to permit the use of the under- ground utility system on Lido Isle and vicinity for a new term of ten .years, was adopted. Resolution, No. 5459, authorizing, the execution of an amendment to a contract with Orange County to perform soil tests for the City, extending the term thereof throu! June 30, .1962, was 'adopted. 3. Resolution, No. 5460, authorizing. the Mayor and City Clerk to execute a contract to serve water outside the City to The Newporter Hotel Corporation, was adopted. Resolution. No. 5461, authorizing the Mayor and City Clerk: to execute. an agreement, with. the Newport Harbor Lawn Bowling. Association for the maintenance. of the green at 15th Street and Balboa.
