`W &P,EAS, Joyce Aoskinson, a recently divorced single mom was running "Joyce's Bantry" on Main Street in
Yfuntington Beach; and
`its' awS, while taking her mother and son for a drive down BCYf one sunny day, she spied a rental sign at a
restaurant and sa w a great opportunity; and
`VJ&UAS, The Spaghetti Bender, namedafter herfather, (Papa Lorenzo's nickname, was born; and
UNTUAS, at the time Bapa Lorenzo was cooking on a cruise ship, Joyce called and he came running to create the
famous creamy Italian dressing and minestrone soup that have become a destination treat for so many. Mama and papa
eekancooked by day, with Joyce waitressing at night all the white running the .Ifuntington Beach restaurant 6 days a week-

`W' &U,4S, eventuaffy wordgot out and a locaffood critic wrote a glowing review which caused business to boom, so
Joyce decided that Newport Beach was the better bet and closed Joyce's Bantry, after which became the Sugar Shack-

`W3fa UAS, Joyce completely remodefed the restaurant in 1976 into the familiar Italian house it is today; and
` VJ&UAS, in the fast 50 years Newport Beach locafs and visitors alike have graciously made the Spaghetti Bender
their home and the "Bender" has been like family for countless employees. ChefAfphonso has been behind the stove for
over 30 years with many other employees spending a decade or more serving quests.
NOW, 7WEUTOU, I, Diane Brooks Dixon, Mayor of the City of Newport Beach, on behalf of the entire City
Council, do hereby congratufate
