Per your request, Leighton Consulting, Inc. (Leighton) has reviewed the plans (S & P
Fabrication Services, 2019) and calculations (Plump Engineering, Inc., 2019) for the
subject project. The referenced documents were reviewed with respect to the
geotechnical aspects of the project.
Based on our review, the canopy foundation design is based on an allowable bearing
pressure of 2,500 pounds per square foot, passive pressure of 250 pounds per cubic
foot, and a soil/concrete friction coefficient of 0.2. The values used in the foundation
design are considered suitable from a geotechnical standpoint. The allowable bearing
pressure and passive pressure may be increased by one-third to resist wind or seismic
loads.
