Dear Mr. Barkley,
Lanxess received two packages containing twelve colors, consisting of three samples each, for Solar
Reflectance and Thermal Emittance evaluation. The samples were identified as A-10, A-20, A-30,
A-40, A-50, A-60, A-70, A-80, A-90, A-100, A-110, and A-120. Please note the samples were
evaluated as received with no attempt to clean or alter surface.
Each of the test samples was tested in six locations in accordance with Appendix A of ASTM C
1549.09, entitled "Standard Test Method for Determining Solar Reflectance at Near Ambient
Temperature using a Portable Solar Reflectomer." For these tests a Device and Services Solar
Reflectometer, model SSR -ER, serial number 188 was utilized. The instrument was set for an air
mass index of 1.5; that approximates the length a beam of sunlight travels through the atmosphere
over the continental United States
Thermal Emittance testing was conducted in a two locations on each of the thirty-six test coupons
and averaged in accordance with ASTM C 1371, entitled "Standard Test Method for Determination
of Emittance of Materials at Near Room Temperature Using Portable Emissometers." For this test a
Device and Services Thermal Emissometer, model AE -I, serial number 2265 was utilized.
The Solar Reflectance Index (SRI) was calculated in accordance with ASTM E 1980-
01, entitled "Standard Practice for Calculating Solar Reflectance index of Low -Sloped
Opaque Surfaces:' The reported solar reflectance indexes (SRI) are reported for three convective
coefficients of 5, 12, and 30 W*m.2 * Ki, corresponding to low, medium and high wind conditions.
