Balboa Island Improvement
Association S 2,500 S 2,500
The Balboa Island Classical ConcertSeries provides
citizens of all ages with low-cost, quality performances in
an intimate setting. The proposed grant funding will
offset operating expenses for the regular season and free
summer concerts.Recommend funding in full x x x
Baroque Music Festival, CdM S 7,000 S 4,000
Funding requested to support the production of a
Spanish Baroque chamber opera on June 22, 2020. This
concert will be the centerpiece of the 40th anniversary
season. Funds will also be directed toward subsidizing
student tickets for the week of the festival.Recommend funding at 2018 - 2019 level.x
Chuck Jones Center for
Creativity S 8,000 S 2,000
Funding will support the continuation and expansion of
the Food for Thought Adult Brain Program.
Recommend funding at 2018 - 2019 level.
Designated for Oasis Senior Center programming.x
Kontrapunktus S 2,000 S 2,000
Kontrapunktus is a conductorless youth orchestra playing
a unique repertoire of Baroque music. Since 2017, they
have produced 4 concerts in Newport Beach. Funds will
be designated toward production of a classical concert on
April 18, 2020.
Recommend funding in full. Outreach to local high
schools x x x
Laguna Playhouse S 5,000 S 5,000
Funding will be designated toward reserving the entire
Laguna Playhouse theater for a group of approximately
420 Newport Beach middle and high school students to
exper:ericelNeverSawAnotherButterfly. The one-act
play will be followed by a panel discussion with Holocaust
survivors, cast, and director.
Recommend funding in full. Outreach to local high
schools x
Lyric Opera of Orange County I S 8,000 S
Funding requested for creation and implementation of an
educational outreach program specifically tailored for
Newport Beach residents that would be performed at 5
outreach events in 2020.
CAG ad hoc subcommittee recommends using
retained 2019-2020 grant funds to underwrite Lyric
Opera programming in the library.x x x
Newport Beach Film Festival S 7,000 S 5,000
Funding requested to support the free 2020 Seminar and
Special Screening Series. These panels provide the public
opportunities to hear directly from a diverse group of
speakers and engage in Q&A.
Recommend funding at 2018 - 2019 level. Outreach
to local high schools x x
Newport Elementary School
Foundation S 7,500 S 500
Funding requested to offset costs associated with the K-6
Art Masters visual arts program.
High quality arts programing to Newport
Elementary will be delivered through other K-6
programs recommended for grant funding. CAG ad
hoc subcommittee recommends Newport
Elementary apply to be part of Pacific Symphony's
Class Act program for 2020-2021.x

Pacific Symphony S 5,000 S 5,000
In the 2019-2020 school year, the Class Act program will
serve Andersen, Newport Coast, and Harbor View
Elementary schools. 1,239 students will experience
activites and arts workshops with Symphony musicians,
as well as Youth Concerts and Bravo Assemblies.Recommend funding in full.x
Philharmonic Society of
Orange County !> 5,000 S 5,000
Grant funding will offset costs associated with providing
youth music education programs and concerts to
Newport Beach Schools. Invitations for these programs
are sent to schools in the spring and fall.Recommend funding in full.x
South Coast Repertory S 5,000 S 5,000
Weekday matinee performance of Dory Fantasmagory at
South Coast Repertory offered to Newport Beach
elementary schools in May 2020. Up to 700 students
served.Recommend funding in full.x
