To City Building/Grading Officials:
In accordance with the City of Newport Beach building requirements, we are submitting
this compaction report for the grading of the subject building pad. This report includes
the test results performed at the subject lot during the placement of on-site soil material
in the area of the proposed residential building pad. The site earthworks operations
were performed by the sub -contractor, Tight Quarters, Inc.
Excavation and grading of the subject lot commenced on November 8, 2018 and was
completed on November 15, 2018. To date, site grading included the removal of the
upper 3 feet of the old fill and native material located within the limits of the proposed
building pad.
Prior to the placement of fill, the excavation bottoms were inspected and approved by a
Certified Engineering Geologist employed by EGA Consultants. The exposed surface
was scarified, cement treated with Portland Cement, and recompacted to a minimum of
90% relative compaction. Field density test results are tabulated on Table 1, Summary
of Field Density Tests.
One 953C Caterpillar tractor front loader and one Kubota SVL90-2 were utilized for the
purpose of compaction and grading control. All work was completed in accordance with
Soils Report dated July 12, 2018 and in accordance with the City of Newport Beach

To City Building/Grading Officials:
In accordance with the City of Newport Beach building and grading requirements, we are
submitting this final compaction report for the grading of the subject building pad, utility trench
backfill, and exterior improvements. The site earthworks operations were performed by the
sub -contractor, Tight Quarters, Inc.
Excavation and grading of the subject lot commenced on November 8, 2018 and was
completed on November 15, 2018. All flatwork subgrade was completed by October 21, 2019.
Site grading included the removal of the upper 3 of the old fill and native material located within
the limits of the new building pad and exterior improvements. A minimum 12 inches of
engineered fill was placed below all future footing bottom elevations.
Prior to the placement of fill, the excavation bottoms were inspected and approved by a
Certified Engineering Geologist employed by EGA Consultants. The exposed surface was
scarified and recompacted to a minimum of 90% relative compaction. Field density test results
are tabulated on Table 1, Summary of Field Density Tests.
One 953C Caterpillar tractor front loader, one Kubota SVL90-2, jumping jack compactors, and
vibratory plates were utilized for the purpose of compaction and grading control.
375-C Monte Vista Avenue • Costa Mesa, CA 92627 • (949) 642-9309 • FAX (949) 642-1290
For all site retaining/subterranean walls, we have observed the installation of the min. 4 -inch
dia. PVC retaining wall back -drain pipes (SDR 35 or equiv) backfilled with %-inch crushed rock
wrapped in filter fabric ("geofabric"). The PVC pipes were placed with perforations -down,
length -wise along the flowlines behind the new retaining walls. The new subterranean
backdrains are tight -lined via solid pipes (min. 4 -inch dia.),which gravity -discharge to the alley
strip drain.
Additionally, prior to the placement of %-inch gravel backfill in the lower H/3 of the wall backfill,
the excavation bottoms were inspected and approved by a representative of the Certified
Engineering Geologist employed by EGA Consultants.
All garage/retaining wall backfill was inspected/tested/documented and approved by a qualified
representative of EGA Consultants. Spoils used as backfill above the filter fabric were
compacted to a minimum of 90% relative compaction. The backdrains and backfill were
approved and are suitable for the intended use from a geotechnical standpoint.
All earthwork operations were performed under continuous observations by this firm and were
performed in accordance with geotechnical specifications outlined in the above -referenced Soils
Report dated July 12, 2018 and with the Precise Grading Plan by D7N Engineering, dated
October 3, 2018.
I certify that all grading and compaction work was done in compliance with the soils report for
this project and the work complies with City of Newport Beach grading regulations. All soils
values and geotechnical specifications outlined in the soils report remain valid.
Based on our continuous observations and testing, the subject and adjacent sites are not
impacted by the site grading operations to date.
