I understand there is meeting going right now regarding Beach closure, given that senior Lifeguards have COVID virus. Received No Notice of this and have work conflict. Here is my proxy: We have an exploding incidence of COVID occurring. Everyone who manages risk seems to know this and is responding— Banks closing, some restaurants. PLEASE MAJOR AND CITY COUNCIL— CLOSE THE BEACHES —AT MINIMUM FOR JULY 3-5. Council needs to take a Leadership role, enact definitive measures as a City. Otherwise, we will by necessity be forced into larger term more restrictive action. This will cost us all much more than moving decisively now ---,economically, sociopsychological and physical health -wise. People follow the message of their Leaders. Act now, Leaders. I assume there is a contingency plan and protocols in place for this type of situations... Open areas for people to relax are a healthy environment and safer than enclosed areas such as bars, etc. If the City Council decides to close the beach how will it be enforced? Will the City halt the Junior Lifeguard program? Will all bars, restaurants, retail stores, etc be closed too? Please do not close the beach. Dear Mayor and members of the counsel, I live at 1504 W. Oceanfront on Balboa Peninsula. I pass bars located on Balboa twice a day, each day bars are packed. No social distancing! No respect for pandemic! LA county has now closed bars, and now we are going to as well. But as has happened in the past once things start reopening everyone will come to Orange County to party. Please take immediate action and close down all bars in Newport Beach and keep them closed until the COVID- 19 guidelines are respected, for the protection of all Newport Beach residents.
