Good morning City Council Members -
On behalf of my husband Logan and myself, we understand the city has a history and has set a precedent for
rotating Mayor and Mayor Pro -Tem through the city council. However, we are writing to ask that in
this unprecedented year, all of you strongly consider the below request for consistency of Mayoral leadership in
2021. We believe it is in the city's best interest for Will O'Neill to remain Mayor of the City of Newport Beach for one
more year.
2020 has been a year like no other, as Newport Beach residents and business owners have endured isolation, loss
of income, Covid illness and deaths, and an uncertain future. Throughout this year, so many have come to find
Mayor O'Neill as a steady hand and inspirational voice of encouragement. 2021 will continue to be a year of great
challenge and uncertainty and requires stability and continuity in our leadership. While it is an unprecedented
approach, during unprecedented challenges, the community is asking the City Council to vote to have Mayor O'Neill
remain in his position for 2021. Newport Beach has become reliant on Mayor O'Neill to...
• Rally our citizens to shop and eat at local establishments
• Support our City departments to provide a high level of service
• Coordinate with Hoag Hospital to reach the community and provide medical expertise, guidance, and
assurance
• Navigate stormy waters and support our first responders during a pandemic and civil unrest
• Work with our City departments and our small business owners to help them survive the state mandated
restrictions
• Faithfully communicate to residents via social media to keep his much needed leadership out in front each
and every day
• Encourage the community to keep going when the future looks bleak and unpredictable
• Bring mental health to the forefront
• Calm the fears of our citizenry
• Provide leadership that instills confidence throughout the community
We respect each and every member of our City Council. We do not make this request lightly, but we feel that is
critical to provide continuity and predictability to our community as we expect 2021 to be a challenging year, still
reeling from a pandemic, but hopeful for a recovery.
Respectfully,
Kate & Logan Malouf

Dear Newport Beach City Council and City Clerk,
As constituents and residents of Corona del mar and the City of Newport Beach for 49 years our family has had
discussion with neighbors and other residents regarding the customary change of mayorship that takes place in our city.
However at this time we feel strongly that the present landscape during Covid our present outstanding leadership by
mayor Will 0' Neil stay in place for the next calendar year.
We commend all of your efforts and we hope you hear from others as we believe it is the right thing to do.
The Thurnher Family, Bertram, Jacqueline and Jeffrey.

Please keep Mayor O'Neill. He has been such an inspiration and voice of reason during this pandemic, making me so
proud of our community. I have friends allover the state following his instagram due to his rational thinking. Honestly,
I never even known who the Newport Beach's Mayor was in the past. I believe his daily updates on what is going on in
the city are getting our citizens more involved in the community and bringing us all closer.
Sincerely,

To the Newport Beach City Council:
I realize that it is typical to name a new mayor every year, but I strongly believe this year to be different due the
pandemic we have all been living through. I believe Will O'Neill is uniquely qualified to remain as Mayor, for another
term assuming he is willing.
The good he has done and the hope he has given to this community via his daily posts is unprecedented.
Here's hoping he can serve another term.

My family is a long-standing Newport Beach family and we wholeheartedly support the council's vote to keep Mayor
O'Neill in office. His leadership during this particular season has been thoughtful, compassionate, strong and supportive
of small business.

Hi,
I am a Newport Beach resident and a small business owner in Orange County. I would like to voice my opinion in regards
to Mayor O'Neil. He has done a wonderful job and I would like to lend my support on having him be voted Mayor again.
It is my impression that the City Council votes on this and I have heard rumors that the council is possibly going to be
moving in a different direction. This community needs Mayor O'Neil. I hope that the council listens to the Newport
Beach residents.
Thank you!
Kind regards,

Please read!
2020 has been a year like no other, as Newport Beach residents and business owners have endured isolation, loss of income, Covid illness and deaths, and an
uncertain future. Throughout this year, so many have come to find Mayor O'Neill as a steady hand and inspirational voice of encouragement. 2021 will continue to
be a year of great challenge and uncertainty and requires stability and continuity in our leadership. While it is an unprecedented approach, during unprecedented
challenges, the community is asking the City Council to vote to have Mayor O'Neill remain in his position for 2021. Newport Beach has become reliant on Mayor
O'Neill to...
• Rally our citizens to shop and eat at local establishments
• Support our City departments to provide a high level of service
• Coordinate with Hoag Hospital to reach the community and provide medical expertise, guidance, and assurance
• Navigate stormy waters and support our first responders during a pandemic and civil unrest
• Work with our City departments and our small business owners to help them survive the state mandated restrictions
• Faithfully communicate to residents via social media to keep his much needed leadership out in front each and every day
• Encourage the community to keep going when the future looks bleak and unpredictable
• Bring mental health to the forefront
• Calm the fears of our citizenry
• Provide leadership that instills confidence throughout the community
We respect each and every member of our City Council. We do not make this request lightly, but we feel that is critical to provide continuity and predictability to
our community as we expect 2021 to be a challenging year, still reeling from a pandemic, but hopeful for a recovery.
Respectfully,
Heather Goren

City Council,
I am a Newport Beach resident and would like to share my opinion on Mayor O'Neill continuing on for a second term. He
has been a voice of reason and leadership this past year and I would appreciate it if he continues in this position through
2021. Please add my comments or vote to keep Mayor O'Neill for another year (at least!!!).

Good Afternoon!
I am writing to express my support of Mayor Will O'Neill. His leadership over the past year has provided a supportive
atmosphere in our Newport Beach community. I began following Mayor O'Neill on social media and find his daily
communication encouraging during this time of unprecedented challenges and uncertainty.
He supports the business owners, the City Government and his constituents with honesty, integrity and wisdom.
If there is any way possible for Mayor O'Neil to continue leading our City through the pandemic and our recovery in
the upcoming year, please consider having Mayor O'Neil remain in his position for 2021.
Thank you for your time and your commitment to the well-being of our city,

Our collective interests are intertwined when it comes to the policy and actions of the City.
We support Brad Avery for appointment to serve as Mayor, effective 2021.
We support Joy Brenner for appointment to serve as Mayor Pro -Tem, effective 2021.
Both of these representatives have demonstrated their understanding and commitment, not only to the District in which
they reside, but to the Community as a whole.
We ask for your Council vote, in support of Avery and Brenner.

Dear City Council Members and Mayor Will O' Neill,
I definitely support the selection of Brad Avery as Mayor and Joy Brenner as Mayor pro -tem. Both of them would do
well in their respective leadership positions. If Brad does not want to be Mayor, the gavel should be passed to Joy. It is
only fair that each district representative has a chance at leadership. And thus each district does as well.
No mayor has served two consecutive terms since 2008. Mayor 0' Neill has pleased his share of constituents with his
service, but I believe that Brad and Joy would do so as well. Furthermore, I think that change would be healthy for
Newport Beach at this time.
Sincerely,
Lynn Lorenz

Dear Mayor O'Neill and City Councilmembers,
From what we understand there has not been a District 2 council member appointed as Mayor for 10 years. District 2
Councilmember Avery has a big following throughout the city as reflected in his overwhelming November re-election
victory. Our hope is that politics are set aside when you cast your vote tomorrow afternoon and that Councilmember
Avery is awarded the honor of Newport Beach's next Mayor.
Additionally, Councilmember Brenner is in line for Mayor pro tem. Isn't it time that this council elects a woman to this
position? Certainly, Joy Brenner has over -and -over again proven herself to be an outstanding leader and one who does
her homework when it comes to facing so many issues confronting our city. She's a tireless worker who deserves the
respect of her fellow councilmembers and should be elected to sit at the arm of the new Mayor, Brad Avery.
In summary, we hope that you do the right thing and elect these two people as Mayor and Mayor pro tem. They'll be a
great team and are well -deserving of your vote. We are counting on you!
Sincerely,
Mike and Dorothy Kraus

I'm reaching out to you to request that Mayor O'Neill be re-elected. I grew up in Newport Beach, attended Newport
Elementary, Ensign, and Newport Harbor. I've stayed in this city all my life and am grateful to be raising five children
here. This city is home. I recently came upon Mayor O'Neill's Instagram account. In the midst of so much uncertainty and
illogical leadership across the state and nation, O'Neill is a beacon of light. He's honest, wise, intelligent, communicates
well, and truly seems to have the best interest of his citizens as his rudder. It's no exaggeration to say Newport Beach
needs him! If you have any questions or if I can be of any help, please feel free to reach out.

Throughout this year, so many have come to find Mayor O'Neill as a steady hand and inspirational voice of
encouragement. 2021 will continue to be a year of great challenge and uncertainty and requires stability and continuity
in our leadership. I am writing to ask that the City Council vote to have Mayor O'Neill remain in his position for 2021.
Mayor O'Neill has done a phenomenal job of openly and regularly communicating with the community. He is accessible
and responsive. Exactly what many people in our community need right now. He encourages the community to keep
going when the future looks bleak and unpredictable. Please consider hearing the will of our residents.
Respectfully,
Stacie Brewster

Hello,
My name is Rennette Crone and I am a resident of Newport Beach. My address is 531 De Anza Drive, Corona Del Mar.
I am writing to you today to ask that you consider keeping Mayor O'Neill in his position for one more year. These are
very difficult times and it would be a comfort for our residents to have such a tested and steady leader remain in his
post.
I believe Mayor Will O'Neill is the best choice to finish leading us through this uncertain time in history.
Thank you.

Good day Members of the City Council,
Today you have the once a year opportunity to choose the Mayor and Mayor pro tem for 2021. The tradition would
have suggested that Brad Avery be Mayor and Jeff Herdman be Mayor pro tem. Since Jeff lost the election than the nod
falls to the next person who has not been either. District 2 has not had a Mayor since Mike Henn in 2010. While each
council member has one vote there are certain accommodations that the Mayor is able to offer. District 2 deserves a
turn.
During the election it was acknowledged that Brad Avery had recently retired and could devote the time to council
activities. Joy Brenner is also retired. With the exception of Diane Dixon, all other members of the council are employed
in one fashion or another.
I see no reason not to follow the tradition and choose Brad Avery as Mayor and Joy Brenner as Mayor pro tem for 2021.
Thank you for your service,

Good Afternoon Members of the City Council,
I am writing to you to express my support for Brad Avery as Mayor and Joy Brenner for Mayor Pro tem for the following
reasons:
1. Tradition — there has been a long tradition to allow Council Members to serve as mayor in their turn. Neither
Brad Avery nor Joy Brenner have been given the opportunity to serve as Mayor. All other Council Members,
except newly elected Noah Blom, have had their turn at the position.
2. Your demonstrated support of Brad Avery during the recent election indicates that you have the confidence that
he is a capable leader. He should be given the chance to demonstrate his leadership.
3. District 2 has not had a Mayor from their District since 2006 when Steve Rosansky was Mayor. Each District
should have the additional benefit of having their District Council Person be the Mayor.
4. Joy Brenner has had her feet on the ground more than any other Council Member. She deserves to be Mayor in
2022, when she will be running for re-election. Although some might deny that this is the case, anyone who is
looking could figure out that Will O'Neill benefitted from being Mayor in 2020 from the additional exposure
he had as Mayor, during his re-election year in 2020. This has occurred in previous pre-election years as
well. It's not hard to figure out.
Please give all of the Council members a fair chance to serve as Mayor.
Thank you for your consideration and your service.
Sincerely,
Navlcy Scarbroixol
