Ho Sum Bistro is an eating establishment located at 3112 Newport Blvd. in Newport Beach. We are seeking to amend our use permit to accommodate an ABC 47 on sale general eating place license. We currently have an on sale 41 beer and wine license and serve an Asian/ Fusion style cuisine that consists of salads, noodles, dumplings and rice dishes. The Balboa peninsula has become an ever-increasingly competitive market for restaurants and we are under constant pressure from our customer base to include spirits as and accompaniment to our menu. I feel it has come to the point where we are losing our ability to compete with all of the new restaurants that have emerged in the area with full liquor licenses. We are an established restaurant of 30 years on the peninsula and have been a responsible partner in making our community a vibrant and healthy destination for travelers and vacationers. The building's lot size is 2,575 Sq ft. and has a total building size of 1,534 sq. ft. The net public area is 501 sq. ft. and the restaurant has 5 parking spaces. We have a total occupancy of 42. These calculations were based upon our amended and approved Conditional use permit #311 O dated July of 1991. The restaurant underwent a fire restoration remodel that was finished in January of 2018 and was rebuilt to the public square footage specs of our original plans. Although our current use permit allows us to stay open until 1 am, we have no need for late hours. Our hours of operation are 11 am to 1 Opm Sunday through Thursday, and 11 am to 11 pm on Friday and Saturday. We do not wish to change our menu or hours of operation.
