NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING
NOTICE 15 HEREBY GIVEN that on Thursday,
March 19, 2020, at 6:30 p .m . or soon thereafter as
the matter shall be heard, a public hear ing will be
conducted In the Council Chambers al 100 Civic
Center Drive, Newport Beach . The Planning
Commission of the City of Newport Beach will
consider the following application :
The Crab Cooker Slgnage and Enaoachments -A
request to establish a comprehensive sign program
for the reconstructed The Crab Cooker restaurant
building. The appltcant proposes to replace most of
the si gnage that was exlstfng prior to demolirlon.
This proposal requlres approval of a modification
permit to allow an increase in maximum cumulative
sign area over what is allowed by the Zoning Code.
The previously existing rooftop "Don't Look Up
Here· fish-shaped sign is proposed 10 be
refurbished, reinstalled and desig nated as a heritage
sign.
Also included in the request is a waive< of City
Council Policy L-6 to Install private Improvements
within the Newport Boulevard and 22nd Street
pubhc rights-of-way consisting of the replacement
of previously existing benches and refurbishment of
an existing freestanding clock. All other proposed
encroachmen ts are consistent with Policy l-6.
This project is categorically exempt pursuant to T!tle
14 of the ullfomla Code of Regulations Sections
15303 and 15311, Article 19 of Chapter 3. Guidelines
for Implemen tation of the California Environmental
Quality Act (CEQA) under Classes 3 (New
Construction or Conversion of Small Structures) and
11 (Accessory Structures),
All interested panies may appear and present
testimony in regard to this application. If you
challenge this project in court. you may be limited
to raising only those Issues you raised at the public
hearing or in written correspondence delivered to
the City, at, or prior to, the public hearing.
Administrative procedures for appeals are provided
in the Newport Beach Municipal Code Chapter 20.64
(A ppeals). The application may be continued to a
specific future meeting date, and If such an action
occurs, ildditlonal public notice of the continuance
will not be provided.
The agenda, staff report, and COl'resPondlng
documents will be available by end of business day
on the Friday preceding the public hearing, and may
be reviewed at the Community Development
Department Permit Center (Bay C•lst floo,), al 100
Civic Center Drive, Newport Beach, CA 92660 or at
the Oty of Newport Beach webslle at
www newoortbeachca.govlplannlnacommisslon.
Individuals not able to attend the meeting may
contact the Planning Division or access the City's
website after the meeting to ,evlew the action on
this applicat ion. All mail or wriuen communications
(including email) from the public, residents, or
applicants regarding an agenda Item must be
submitted by 5 p.m. on the business day
immediately prior to the meeting. This allows time
for the Planning Commission 10 adequately consider
the submitted correspondence.
