This project included mobilization, traffic control, survey monument restoration, utility
coordination and verification, removal of existing asphalt concrete (AC) street pavement,
subgrade preparation, construction of new AC street pavement, removal and
reconstruction of deteriorated concrete curb ramps, curbs and gutters, sidewalks, cross
gutters and driveway approaches, minor landscaping and irrigation repairs, utility
adjustments, traffic signage improvements, and pavement striping.
The contracted work has now been completed to the satisfaction of the Public Works
Department. A summary of the construction cost is as follows:
Original Bid Amount: $ 2,425,694.00
Actual Cost of Bid Items Constructed: $ 1,297,604.36
Total Change Orders: $ 1,023,831.15
Final Contract Cost: $ 2,321,435.51
The final contract cost was $2,321,435.51, which was approximately 4.3 percent lower
than the original bid amount. This cost decrease was primarily due to a field change in
which the structural pavement section was revised to a full -depth AC section, in lieu of
using geotextile fabric and base material. Revising the pavement section design to
full -depth AC allowed for an overall decrease in pavement thickness, while still providing
the same service life as the original design. Additionally, the full -depth AC section
shortened the construction duration and provided cost savings by eliminating the use of
geotextile fabric and base material as originally proposed.
There were seven contract change orders approved for the project. These change orders
were primarily due to the revised design for the structural pavement section, which
included increased asphalt concrete quantities and the deletion of geotextile fabric and
base material. Overall, a project cost savings was realized as a result of the change
orders.
A summary of the project schedule milestones is as follows:
Estimated Start of Construction per Annual Baseline Schedule
07/06/2020
Actual Start of Construction Per Notice to Proceed

This project was substantially completed ahead of schedule and the contractor was able
to shorten the construction duration, primarily due to the revised, full -depth AC pavement
section design.
