infringements on our use of the current park facilities”.
First off, it seems ridiculous that any planning commission would even consider that a
safe site for more living accommodations due to traffic and the implosion now of people
using the parks, soccer fields and courts. The congestion is already felt by the
neighborhood. Putting one resident there would be unsafe!
Second, it amazes me that the city has undermined our neighborhood by allowing a
contractor to choose the type of structure they will build after approval, if that possibly
could be the outcome. This seems incredibly deceitful, as the structures are NOT
similar for reasons of transient versus ownership, facilities needed, etc.
Thirdly, we voted into our city leadership a team of individuals that pledged no growth,
and yet we see structures going up in every available space. I shudder when I pass all
the housing on San Miguel that was just built. Are those apartments so full we need
more??
And lastly, and most sadly, there is discussion among neighbors that the
contractors are “buddies” with the council and planning commission and that we
will, in the end, have no voice. This will be a great story for the national news (when
forwarded) to heap on top of all the other awesome national press Newport Beach has
been getting of late!!
Please reconsider this property as an extension of our parks. We fully utilize them (as
do a myriad of people from Irvine who have taken a liking to the new pickle courts!) and
the extra space will be welcome and add value to our city, the residents, and the
properties which currently exist. This would be such a welcome improvement as
opposed to a new living complex that will implode our living spaces with massive
congestion.
