Subject: 4302 Ford Road Apartment/Condo Project
Dear Ben,
I am writing with serious concerns about the 4302 Ford Road Apartment or Condo Project being
proposed. I am a homeowner in the Port Streets neighborhood and have young children. My
family and I have strong concerns about the traffic, safety, and increased class size at Andersen
Elementary School that this new project would bring.
Traffic:
o The increased use of Ford Rd. for the project will cause even more gridlock traffic
to the 3-way stop sign at rush hour times. As a resident on Port Abbey (2nd street
from entrance to the neighborhood) this will severely impact my ability to enter &
exit the neighborhood. Additionally, without enough parking available, residents
and visitors of 4302 Ford Road will continue to park within in our neighborhood
and on my street.
Safety:
o This is the largest concern we have. The increased number of people and cars will
greatly impact our neighborhood safety. We chose this neighborhood because of
it's close-knit families, with more families being able to access our neighborhood
I am concerned about the rise in safety for my children.
o Additionally, the entrance to 4302 Ford Road causes great safety risks to the
children and families that use Bonita Canyon Sports Park. The shared use of the
parking lot will endanger children and bicyclists that will be using the space. I
recognize many blind spots within the parking lot already and the addition of
more vehicles and delivery trucks will put children's lives at risk as they walk
to/from the Park.
o It is my understanding that delivery trucks will need to use Bonita Canyon Sports
Park parking lot to back out of 4302 Ford Road, which will cause serious
concerns for the pedestrians, children, and bicyclists that regularly use that
sidewalk and street.
Elementary School Class Size
o We chose the Port Streets neighborhood for its exceptional elementary school,
Roy O. Andersen. With the addition of more housing, the class sizes of the
school will most likely increase. With some class sizes already exceeding 30+
students, this is a big concern for our children's education. We chose Andersen
Elementary School for high academic standard and close relationships that our
children build with their teachers. With larger class sizes, our children will not be
receiving the best education possible.
I would be happy to meet in person to discuss this issues in more detail at any time. Please help
us in protecting the safety of our children & community and enjoyment of our neighborhood
parks by denying the request to build apartment/condos at 4302 Ford Road.
Thank you,
Julie Chiaverini
