The small sliver of land that Hines is trying to jam condos into best serves the community as an extension of the current recreational park and facilities and/or the natural habitat that exists now. Beyond the public’s enjoyment of the land, cramming 21 units into that space creates a safety hazard for the nearby neighborhoods, the thousands of families and children that enjoy the multi-use sports parks on the weekends and the numerous young students who use that route to ride their bikes to and from CDM high school every weekday. Furthermore, adding additional multi-family units will exacerbate the already unsafe traffic congestion and sudden-stops along Bonita Canyon drive entering the Port Streets neighborhood at rush hour. The last thing this community needs is more congestion, speeding cars, parking problems, delivery truck, noise pollution and trash routes alongside a hugely popular family recreational center. Must this city cover every corner every last corner with multi-unit housing at the expense of the safety of the children in the community? I am already hesitant to let my young children ride to the Bonita Canyon Sports Park due to the already tenuous parking situation when games and practices are played. Add another 35+ cars and delivery trucks to that dead end cul de sac and I would consider Ford road and the adjacent parking areas untenable. I am very strongly against the conversion of this land into a bustling condo corner in the middle of a family recreational park.
