I am strongly opposed to the Ford Road Residential Project on many grounds. But the issue is not whether I agree or disagree with the Planning Division's decisions on development. It is whether our representatives in government are acting with integrity and honor, or whether the process is entirely corrupt. I reviewed the documents related to the project at www.newportbeachca.gov, and I believe them to be very dishonest. Ultimately we the residents are at the mercy of our representatives to safeguard the integrity of the political process by which decisions such as these are made. We are counting on you to do the right thing and reject the obviously facetious arguments made by the proponents of this project. To give one example, on page 129, the report says that the project "would introduce approximately 4 students into the attendance area of NMUSD. Lincoln Elementary School and Corona Del Mar High School would be able to accommodate the estimated four additional students generated by the proposed project." This project will attract families of elementary age kids who will walk across Ford Road on their way to Andersen. I would estimate that the 21 dwelling units with 63 bedrooms would have 33 elementary school age kids, and 29 of these kids will go to Andersen, which is less than a mile away. Do you personally believe that the impact on our schools from this 21-unit, 63-bedroom project will be 0 new kids at Andersen Elementary, and 4 new kids between Lincoln and CDM combined? I know that you don't believe that in your heart. In my view, no reasonable person without bias could possibly come to such an absurd conclusion. And if you are provided with an expert's report to that effect, you should be compelled by your conscience to reject that expert as biased and that report as false. That is just one example. Nearly all of the impact statements are wildly biased. They are stated in reference to the population of Newport Beach as a whole with no consideration to the obvious stresses on local public services, safety, recreation, traffic, environment, etc. I know that you know this. I know we live in an age where people are as disillusioned as ever with government. I don't know you personally, but I can only hope that you have the kind of values that will give you the strength to do what you must know is the right and ethical thing - and that is to call out the corruption in this process.
