I am in strong opposition to the 4302 Ford RoadProject. I bought a home in the Port Streets in
2012. One of this neighborhood's selling points is its tranquility and park-like atmosphere. To
remove this by building a large condo building in one of these precious areas seemingly goes
against everything that this neighborhood promotes. The environmental impact will be huge:
instead of trees we'll have an eyesore of a building. Making room for human habitats means the
destruction of habitats for all the animals that live there. Removing more wild, natural land will
mean pushing coyotes and other wildlife further into our neighborhood, posing a danger to our
children and pets. Instead of quiet habitats, it'll be filled with people, noise, and pollution from
their everyday carbon footprint in an area that was otherwise left alone. There is simply no need
for this.
Beyond the assured environmental impact, I am concerned about the assured threats to safety. As
my wife mentioned in her email: our "children are very little. We go to this park multiple times a
week. We play AYSO in those fields. Take tennis lessons at the tennis courts. Have held
birthday parties next to the playground. My kids have learned to ride their scooters and bikes in
this park. Building this condo/apartment project threatens the safety of my kids with cars coming
in and out of a hidden driveway. Trucks parking in the driveway will have to back up blindly up
the incline on the driveway. It will make it nearly impossible to see pedestrians. We have learned
the parking at the building will be minimal, which means increased traffic on the street with
residents looking for places to park. Increased traffic, and the design of the entrance to the
building are a threat to our children's safety. And, with little parking for the building itself, that
means major congestion on Ford Road, with competition for parking - already fierce with AYSO
and other programming in the park - will be horrendous."
I strongly oppose this project. I really don't see the gain?? Why does a developer feel that this
project will provide any benefit other than to increase his own business? Let's not forget about
the negative impact that will be felt with the wildlife/environment/traffic congestion, as well as
the safety of children and pedestrians.
