I am emailing you to let you know we are strongly opposed to condos/apartments going in at this site for many reasons, but the primary reason is safety. There is already so much traffic in this area and the entrance to the Port Streets close to the proposed project. I have witnessed several times children almost being hit when trying to cross from the exit of the Port Streets across to Ford Road. Many families walk to the park by the proposed condos/apartments every day and it is almost a certainty that an accident will happen one day and this is without increased traffic from this potential project. Our neighborhood families and children use the walking trails, tennis courts, pickleball courts and park and I can’t imagine how the city would let such a beautiful area be overtaken by condos/apartments. If you go there, especially on the weekends, you will see there is already inadequate parking and cars speeding down the road all while children are trying to play soccer games and play at the park. If something is going to be done with the land, it should be a public use project that would add value (not money to the city) to the community. I would suggest to expand the park and potentially add a dog park and keep the space green. Port Streets Children who attend CdM also use the bike path to get to school and with the proposed plan, that would not be an option. And I’m telling you that if the kids are forced to go around, there will be accidents. This area is just too congested without proper stop signs or crosswalks. Finally, we live in the day when people want to develop all available land to make money. There is something to be said about not building on every square inch of space. We must preserve our nature, trees and environment. The city has done a wonderful job with that area and it would be so sad to put in condos/apartments; it would change the feel and purpose of the space forever. Could you please let me know when the next meeting will be regarding this project? Thank you so much for you time, Jennifer Schafer
