Subject: Request for EIR for 4302 Ford Road - too much traffic, too little parking, too much danger
Mr. Zdeba and Planning Commissioners,
I strongly oppose the proposal to shoe-horn 21
residential units into the parcel adjacent to the
Bonita Canyon Sports Park at 4302 Ford Road. My
objection is based mainly on the danger created by
the additional traffic on Old Ford Road and in the
Sports Park parking lot. However, a massive three-
story apartment/condo building and its amenities
will have a significant, negative and noisy
environmental impact on the quality of life and
privacy of families in the existing Harbor View
Homes. The lights that will shine directly into
people’s residents is unfair not to mention the
lighted pool/party area will also make noise
pollution at night.
Although the developer claims to have ample,
tandem underground parking, a brief google search
reveals that, in real life, car juggling is unpopular
and inconvenient. People hate it and go to avoid
using it. The project’s own renderings illustrate how
the adjacent above-ground city parking spaces will
be much more convenient for the use of the
project’s residents and guests. I have lived in the
portstreets for 26 years and this neighborhood has
gone from small 1500— 2500 square feet homes to
lot line to lot line 4500 plus square feet homes with
three car garages and most streets have their
residents 2 plus large SUV’s parked on the street.
Speed bumps and all kinds of yield signs have been
placed through the neighborhood because of too
much traffic and danger already. The increased
traffic of 21 households will be adult park users,
(tennis, pickle ball, basketball, walkers and joggers)
CdM students, bicyclists, and current vehicle users
of Ford Road.
The additional traffic volume will pose a
danger to young lives, as children excitedly pour
in and out of their family vehicles on their way to
and from the tot lot, soccer practices and games
on the city’s facilities!!!!!
The portstreets homes were built within a plan to
assure safety, security and a pleasant home owning
experience. The plan has already pushed its limits,
with the sizes of homes allowed on the lots and
already additional homes built on phase 2 off of
MacArthur and San Miguel. In addition, heavily
used sports parks have been added. And these 21
rather large dwellings the size of homes will be
more homes in size and number of cars than an
entire portstreet block! It is unconscionable that a
building so out of existing zoning rules and the
original makeup and plans for this neighbor would
even be considered, in light of the dangers it poses.
Please do not rezone 4302 Ford Road from Public
Facilities to Mutilple-Unit Residential or amend the
general plan to allow “Newport House” to be built
