Dear Mr. Herdman, Mr. Zdeba, Planning Commissioners:
I wish to express my opposition to this project. The application proposes a spot re-zoning and spot
general plan amendment which is poor planning practice and inappropriate for a variety of
reasons. This proposal should be a part of a more thoughtful citywide approach to the land use
patterns of the City and much more in-depth environmental study. A general plan amendment and
zone change to allow out of scale development on an undeveloped lot adjacent to a public park
should certainly require an EIR. In fact, it seems that any proposed General Plan amendment should
require an EIR to study the impacts.
Please listen to the long-time residents of the community! We / you should not allow the developer
to develop this site, as it is inconsistent with the height, density, zoning and general plan of the
adjacent Harbor View Homes neighborhood. This project is like trying to fit a square peg in a round
hole. It is not going to benefit any of the surrounding residents nor the broader Newport Beach
community.
If you allow the residents of Newport Beach to have a voice and process to evaluate and propose
alternative uses of the land, I am certain we will provide you with a solution that serves and benefits
the broader community.
