Subject: 4302 Ford Project
Mr. Zebeda,
I am a resident of the Port Streets, and I am writing you to let you know that I oppose the project that is
being planned on Ford Road. It is my understanding that you have heard only heard from a few of the
Port Street residents. I would like you to know that residents that I have spoken to about this proposed
project, are totally opposed. Not one person has expressed in interest in favor of this project. I did take
the time to watch the presentation made by Hines to the Newport Beach Planning Commission on 4/18,
and I am surprised that this project is being sold as a place for “older people and divorcees”. Maybe
that’s because they don’t want residents to think about how the children living in the proposed
development will attend Andersen Elementary. The people in our community have paid huge sums for
their homes in order for their kids to attend Andersen, and to live in the Port Streets. Our school is a
very important part of our community, and one of the reasons our homes are so highly valued is
because of our school. I don’t like the idea of having more residences with children feeding into our
school. Andersen Elementary has plenty of students.
I am also opposed to the project because of the extra traffic that it will bring to Old Ford Road. Pulling
out of or into my neighborhood will be a problem, and the added traffic will be dangerous to our kids
when trying to get to the soccer and baseball fields. People already tend to speed down from the park to
the stop sign at Mesa View. This problem will only get worse with the planned 21 units. Parking at the
park will also decrease, because overflow will inevitably end up there. People with recreation plans will
have to park outside the parking lot and overflow may then even end up on Port Sheffield. We already
have this problem, when too many people are parked along Ford for soccer games.
The proposed project is just a BAD IDEA. It has been presented sweetly and all of the right buzz words
have been used, but at the end of the day it will create more problems in our community and ruin a park
that so many people enjoy daily.
Sincerely,
Christy Smith
