Re: Agenda Item No. 16 --Resolution No. 2021-53
Dear Mayor Avery and City Council Members:
On your agenda for the June 8, 2021 City Council Meeting you will be discussing a resolution to
disestablish the Newport Beach Restaurant Association Business Improvement District. I would
urge you to re -consider your plan to dissolve the Restaurant BID and agree to continue its
operation for one more year. This will give the restaurant owners who would like to continue
operating a BID enough time to work with the current BID Board and the City to reform the BID
as a 1994 BID.
This past year has been excruciatingly difficult on the entire food service industry. Most
restaurateurs were focused on keeping the doors open, retaining their staff and paying their bills
while enduring months of government mandated opening and closing and eating inside and
eating outside. There was not enough bandwidth to work on the issue of converting the BID
from a 1989 to a 1994 BID.
I encourage you to give the BID members one more year to get the job done with direction to
staff to commit the resources that are needed to accomplish the goal.
