REGARDING: Tentative agreement with the Newport Beach Firefighters
Association (N.B.F.A.)
THE FOLLOWING POINTS HAVE BEEN AGREED TO BY THE
NEGOTIATORS FOR THE N.B.F.A. AND THE CITY'S NEGOTIATORS.
FINAL AGREEMENT IS SUBJECT TO RATIFICATION BY THE MEMBERS
OF THE N.B.F.A. AND THE CITY COUNCIL.
Total compensation increase of 6% for the period June 30, 1989 to July
1, 1990.
2. The City will cap its contribution to employee health care plans at
$400.00 per month.
3. The City will modify its contract with P.E.R.S. to allow for the
best/highest year calculation. The City will pay the total extra cost of
the highest year benefit for the first year and phase it into total comp. at
the rate of an additional 20% per year until it is 100% included in the
total comp. calculation. Employees who elect to do so will still be
allowed to pay their own P.E.R.S. contributions in their last year of
employment.
4. The City offers to modify the current policies regarding sick and
vacation leave into a flexible paid leave policy. Participation in the
paid leave program will be on a voluntary basis, with all new hires
placed in the program. Enrollment must be concluded by August 24,
1990. Program will begin, for those who elect, on September 1, 1990.

5. The physical fitness assessment program shall be maintained on a
voluntary basis. Fitness reports (pass/fail) on participants will sent to
the Fire Chief. N.B.F.A. members who wish to continue in the
physical fitness assessment program may do so on their own time. All
N.B.F.A. members who participate in the fitness assessment program
will be eligible for a receive a complete physical one year and a stress
test the next year.
8. Effective July 1,1990, certified members of the Hazardous Materials
Response Team shall receive an assignment bonus of $200.00 per
month.
9. The academic incentive pay will be increased by $30.00 at all levels.
10. The N.B.F.A. Association agrees to abide by the Newport Beach Fire
Department's safety regulations which includes the wearing of
approved safety shoes while on duty, as well as when answering any
call for service as required in the line of duty.
11. The Newport Beach Fire Department agrees to outfit each N.B.F.A.
member of the suppression division with approved "work out"
apparel. The N.B.F.A. agrees that after 6:00 P.M. that its members will
be either wearing the approved "work out" apparel or the approved
N.B.F.D. uniform.
