PROJECT SUMMARY
Zoning Code and Local Coastal Program policy and regulations update related to
accessory dwelling units. DISCUSSION
On September 9, 2021, the Planning Commission conducted a study session on a
potential update to the City’s assessor dwelling unit (ADU) regulations. The effort is in response to City Council Policy K-4 and the draft Housing Element that promote ADUs. State requirements are complex and changes to the City’s regulations to promote ADU production should be carefully considered. To that end, the Commission expressed the
need to establish an ad-hoc committee to study the topic.
Pursuant to the Planning Commission’s Rules or Procedures, the Chair may appoint an ad-hoc committee (Committee) and members serve at the pleasure of the Chair. The Chair will identify two or three Commissioners to serve on the Committee at the meeting.
The Committee would not be subject to the Ralph M. Brown Act. The Committee would conduct their business in a manner the Committee and Chair deem appropriate, and the Committee will report their recommendations to the Commission at a future Planning Commission meeting.
