25. Clarify and dimension the handrail installations on the plans. Handrails shall be placed on each side of
each ramp, shall be continuous the full length of the ramp, shall extend a minimum of 12" beyond the
top and bottom of the ramp. The extension may be turned 90° if it creates a hazard or returned
smoothly to wall, floor, or post. 1133B.5.5.1 & Fig 11 B-27(b) &(c)
26. Detail the handrail height above the ramp walk surface. Handrails shall be 34" to 38" above the ramp
surface. Revise the handrail details accordingly; "height above nosing" is not applicable to the ramp
construction.
27. Handrails projecting from a wall shall have a space of 1 ''"A" between the wall and the handrail. Omit the
"min." from the handrail details. 113313.5.5.1, Fig 11 B-36 (4/A3.0)
28. Clarify the surface finish and continuous solid smooth wall surface for each side of the ramp. The ramp
surface shall be bound by a solid uninterrupted wall; or, a guide curb at minimum of 2" in height shall
be provided at each side of the ramp; or, a wheel guide rail shall be provided above the surface of the
ramp. 1133B.5.6.1 & 1133B.5.6.2 (1/A3.0 & 2/A3.0)
29. Provide a 42" minimum guard height above the ramp and landing walk surfaces, where the surface is
greater than 30" above the adjacent grade.
30. Show the light fixtures on the ramp sections. The light fixtures shall not reduce any required clear
areas, widths or landings. (1A3.0 & E2.1)
