Subject: Observation of Caisson Excavation for Proposed Pool at Rear of Site
Peter Anderson of ANDERSON GEOLOGY CONSULTING, LLC. (AG) was onsite at the request of the
General Contractor (Mr. Jack Locker, La Paz Poolscapes) and drilling contractor (Drilco) to observeand
document the caisson excavations for the proposed pool along the rear (east) edge of the subject site.
Caissons C-5 & C-6 have been drilled to depths of 21 and 15-feet below existing grades, respectively, in
order to provide embedment into competent bedrock material. The caissons encountered bedrock
material identified on the basis of regional geologic mapping as sandstone and siltstone bedrock of the
Capistrano Formation. Groundwater was encountered at a depth of approximately 14.5 feet and caisson
C-5 required casing due to caving.
Conclusions: Caisson excavation for the proposed improvements summarized above have been drilled to
the depths provided for the minimum embedment into competent material in accordance with the
approved plans The caissons excavations are considered acceptable from an engineering geologic
viewpoint for placement of steel and concrete. All loose material and/or water should be removed from
the caissons prior to placement of steel and concrete. This memorandum is not intended to verify cage
length or steel reinforcement and line and grade elevations for caissons is the responsibility of others and
not verified by AG representatives.

Subject: Observation of Temporary Excavations for Proposed Pool Improvements
Peter Anderson of ANDERSON GEOLOGY CONSULTING, LLC. (AG) was onsite at the request of the
General Contractor (Mr. Jack Locker, La Paz Poolscapes) to observe and document the temporary
excavations for the proposed pool improvements along the rear (east) edge of the subject site. Temporary
cuts of up to 7-feet in height were observed and exposed a combination of artificial fill, native terrace
deposits and bedrock of the Monterey Formation (Tri). The temporary excavations should be laid back
so as not to exceed a 5-foot vertical with a 1:1 layback above.
Temporary excavations should not be left open for extended periods of time (>45-days) or during periods
of adverse weather conditions. The material exposed in temporary excavations should be periodically
evaluated by the Contractor and Geotechnical Consultant during excavation and construction. Flatter
embankments could be required if seepage zones or unstable layers are encountered within excavations.
Excavations should proceed in a manner so as not to remove lateral or bearing support of adjacent
properties or structures.

General Contractor (Mr. Jack Locker, La Paz Poolscapes) and drilling contractor (Drilco) to observe and
document the caisson excavations for the proposed pool along the rear (east) edge of the subject site.
Caisson C4 has been drilled to a depths of 27-feet below existing grades in order to provide design

approved plans. The caissons excavations are considered acceptable from an engineering geologic
viewpoint for placement of steel and concrete. All loose material and/or water should be removed from
the caissons prior to placement of steel and concrete. Concrete placement via a tremmie pipe may be
required if standing water is present at the time of concrete placement. This memorandum is not intended
to verify cage length or steel reinforcement and line and grade elevations for caissons is the responsibility
of others and not verified by AG representatives.

Field Memorandum
Client: Ms. Linda Horioka c/o La Paz Poolscapes Date: May 17, 2021
Project Address: 724 St James Place, City of Newport Beach Project: 20083-01
Subject: Observation of Caisson Excavation for Proposed Pool at Rear of Site
Peter Anderson of ANDERSON GEOLOGY CONSULTING, LLC. (AG) was onsite at the request of the
General Contractor (Mr. Jack Locker, La Paz Poolscapes) and drilling contractor (Drilco) to observe and
document the caisson excavations for the proposed pool along the rear (east) edge of the subject site.
Caisson C-3 has been drilled to a depths of 31-feet below existing grades in order to provide design
embedment into competent bedrock material. The caisson encountered bedrock material identified on the
basis of regional geologic mapping as sandstone and siltstone bedrock of the Capistrano Formation.
Groundwater was encountered at a depth of approximately 14.5 feet and required casing due to caving.
Conclusions: Caisson excavation for the proposed improvements summarized above have been drilled to
the depths provided for the minimum embedment into competent material in accordance with the
approved plans. The caissons excavations are considered acceptable from an engineering geologic
viewpoint for placement of steel and concrete. All loose material and/or water should be removed from
the caissons prior to placement of steel and concrete. This memorandum is not intended to verify cage
length or steel reinforcement and line and grade elevations for caissons is the responsibility of others and
not verified by AG representatives.
Respectfully submitted,
