Subject: City Council Comment
Hello,
My name is Taylor Storm and I live on Fairhill Drive in Newport Beach. As a proud resident of Newport beach for over 25
years I wanted to say thank you for taking the time to hear my comments. I will be at the City council meeting tomorrow
and I would like to talk about an escalating safety issue on our street. My thoughts are articulated below. Please let me
know if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you.
My family and I have lived on Fairhill drive for the last 5 years and we are extremely grateful to live in such a great city.
When we moved in we asked the neighbors what the best and worst parts of the street are. Everyone said the best part
of the street was the culture of family and how many small children lived on the street. The only bad thing our neighbors
brought up was there is a man who has had trouble with the law that lives in front of his mother's house in a leaky, run
down, RV camper.
At first, the RV camper was just an eye -sore but as the years progressed the foot traffic to and from the RV camper got
worse and worse. The people that "visited" the camper were people experiencing homelessness or people with mental
illness or on drugs. I had to ask a lady to stop cursing and loitering on my next door neighbors driveway and that was a
person who had visited the RV prior to her outburst on my neighbors driveway. There has also been a high increase of
crime on our street. My next door neighbor's truck got stolen, a car was broken into, and multiple people were caught
with drugs who had visited the RV.
My main concern is that this RV and what is being sold out of it are attracting criminals and people with mental illness.
We have over 13 small children on our street and I'm beyond worried that something will happen to one of them
because of the RV being parked on our street. I have also had a bike stolen from my house and a lady who was
mumbling to herself came up to my front gate while my kids were right there.
I grew up in Newport Beach and I loved my childhood and one of the main reasons I had such an amazing experience
growing up here was because I always felt safe and cared for. I worked extremely hard so I could move back to Newport
and give that same gift to my children but they are definitely not safe and I really hope you can help me with this. Thank
you so much for your time.
Sincerely,
Taylor Storm
