Distinguished colleagues, may I respectfully put in a good word for our great library system, and to
the fine staff, Library Foundation and Friends who make it all possible.
I had my first library card here in 1968 when I joined the city manager's staff. I did administrative
support work for the library and worked closely with the legendary Librarian Dorothea Sheely, here
for 30 years if memory serves.
Your libraries provide educational enrichment, of course, but also serve as a clearing house for
community information, a sources of peace and quiet for patrons and a temporary refuge for some
folks down on their luck - and in that regard I salute my great friend Natalie Basmaciyan for all she
did for the central library and is doing in her current role in the city manager's office.
And then there is the Friends bookstore. Priceless bargains.
There certainly is more to the story
Thank you.
