DISCUSSION•
The 1991-92 budget was prepared to include costs for maintenance
and fuel for the three vehicles now owned by Friends of Oasis.
This budget amount will be recovered as revenue to the City from
participant donations and fees.
The following is a description of the three vehicles that are used
at Oasis Senior Center:
1. Care -a -Van - This vehicle is responsible for transporting
seniors who need assistance to medical appointments, grocery
shopping and other errands. It is an oversized Ford van
equipped with a wheelchair lift and can transport nine
passengers and two wheelchairs. The driver possesses a
class B license which requires an extensive examination
process and a physical every two years. The driver is an
employee of Friends of Oasis.

Approving the recommendation will allow the valuable transportation
program found at Oasis to continue. By providing this service the
City is embracing the concept of multiple transit that improves air
quality and benefits many elderly residents unable to take
advantage of community services due to mobility problems.
It is proposed that any replacement of vehicles as they become worn
to be done through grants and donations in cooperation with Friends
of Oasis. This allows the program to continue in the future
without an additional burden upon the City budget.
