COSTA MESA BRIDGE SHELTER
Costa Mesa & Newport Beach entered into
Memorandum of Understanding in December 2020
72-Bed Shelter Opened in Spring 2021
Newport Beach has exclusive use of 20 beds
99 people from Newport Beach have entered the Bridge
Shelter since it opened
10 individuals currently on waiting list for shelter
Shelter is often at or near capacity
PROPOSED AMENDMENT
Costa Mesa to add 16 beds total
11 for Costa Mesa, 5 for Newport Beach
Newport Beach could use up to 5 of Costa Mesa's beds, when
available for a daily fee
Newport Beach would pay:
One-time contribution of $50,000 for furniture, fixtures &
equipment
Additional annual operations cost of $275,000 ($55,000 per
new bed)
$155 per day per bed for use of one of Costa Mesa's beds
SUMMARY
If approved, Amendment No. One would provide Newport
Beach guaranteed access to 25 shelter beds
Newport Beach's annual cost would increase to
$1,275,000:
$1,000,000 for original 20 beds (@ $50,000 per bed)
$275,000 for additional five beds (@ $55,000 per bed)
Newport Beach would pay a one-time cost of $50,000 for
furniture, fixtures & equipment
The annual CPI increase would be optional, not
mandatory
