Dear Mayor Blom and Honorable Members of the City Council,
I am writing to support the appointment of Timothy (Chase) Rief to the vacant position on the City's
Board of Library Trustees. I live in the same neighborhood as Chase and have had the pleasure of
knowing him for over 2 years. During that period of time, I have been consistently impressed by
Chase's diligence, attention to detail and desire for public service. Chase regularly serves in
leadership roles at both our local elementary school (Andersen Elementary) and within our
neighborhood (the Port Streets), and he has excelled in each of these positions. In general, based on
my experience with Chase, I think he would be a fine addition to any public body. However, more
specifically, I believe that Chase would be the perfect appointee to the Board of Library Trustees.
Chase cares deeply about education, and the public school system in general. As just one of many
examples, he was a point of contact for former Newport -Mesa Unified School District Board of
Trustee Karen Yelsey when she needed to understand and address issues at Andersen Elementary
School. Moreover, he has frequently expressed to our community a desire for the Newport Beach
library system to expand its relationship with Newport -Mesa Unified School District in order to
improve reading programs at the public schools within the City. When it comes to Chase, I have
learned that he does not take a job lightly and he always sees it through to the end. Given
everything that I know about Chase and the requirements of a Board of Library Trustee, I cannot
imagine that there is a better candidate out there.
Thank you for your time, attention and service to this fine City.
Sincerely yours,
Reed Glyer
