CONCLUSIONS
Following is a summary of the design values and the grading notes:
Bearing Capacity
Based on field observation during grading, the results of the density tests and on
Geo-Etka, Inc.'s Report No.: F-11935-22 dated 03-14-22, the maximum bearing value of
1,500 p.s.f. may be used for the soil below the footings embedded at least 18 inches
below the lowest finished grade.
These values may be increased by 1/3 when resisting loads caused by wind or seismic
forces, providing the resultant size is not less than that obtained with dead load and live
load only.
Slab on Grade
All footings should be reinforced with at least four (4) Number 5 bars, 2 at the top and 2
at the bottom.
It is recommended that the slabs on grade be at least 5 inches thick and reinforced with
Number 3 bars at 18 inches on center. This should be underlain by a moisture barrier.
The moisture barrier should consist of 4 inches of clean, uniform sized, crushed rock or
clean medium to coarse sand. Also, a 10-mil poly vinyl chloride sheet or comparable
impervious material on top of it should be utilized as additional protection. All joints shall
be made so as to preserve the impervious character. The membrane should be
protected from puncture by a cushion of at least 2 inches of sand, above and below the
plastic sheet.
The above criteria are based on the assumption that the moisture barrier is installed and
the concrete placed before the soil has begun to show significant surface cracks. Should
such cracks occur, the soil should be thoroughly wetted to a depth of 18 inches so that all
cracks have disappeared. This should occur 24 to 48 hours prior to placement of the
concrete itself.
