We already have traffic gridlock often, why would we want to add more congestion? If you feel compelled to add a swimming pool, look to the area near Bristol and the golf course ; not to the beach areas. This is a stupid idea that should be tabled. Thank you for your consideration. Report phish using the Phish Alert Button above. Dear Members of the City Council, I am writing on behalf of myself and many concerned residents to express strong opposition to the proposed public pool in [specific area]. While the intention to enhance community amenities is appreciated, this project would significantly disrupt our neighborhood and create several problems that far outweigh any potential benefits. The area being considered for this project is already heavily trafficked, with congested streets and limited parking. Adding a public pool would exacerbate these issues, leading to increased traffic congestion, noise, and safety concerns for pedestrians and residents. The chaos that would result from an influx of visitors to the area, particularly during peak seasons, would greatly diminish the quality of life for those who live here. Additionally, the neighborhood lacks the infrastructure to support such a facility. Increased traffic and parking demands would likely spill over into residential areas, creating frustration and conflicts. This is particularly concerning given the presence of families with young children and elderly residents, whose safety and well-being must be prioritized. It is clear that the majority of residents in this area are strongly against this proposal. Instead of pursuing this ill-advised plan, we urge the council to consider alternative locations that are better suited to handle the increased activity a public pool would bring. A more appropriate site with adequate infrastructure would allow the community to enjoy the benefits of such a facility without imposing undue burdens on any one neighborhood. We respectfully request that the council reconsider this proposal and take into account the voices of the residents who will be most directly affected. A decision to proceed with this project in its current location would be a serious mistake, with lasting negative impacts on our community. Thank you for considering our concerns. We look forward to your thoughtful response Linda Laurance 3004 Cliff Dr Newport Beach 92663 From: City Clerk"s Office To: Mulvey. Report phish using the Phish Alert Button above. To whom it may concern, I'm writing to strongly oppose the idea of a city pool for the following reasons: 1. This is a terrible use of tax dollars in an area where everyone has access to the ocean and most people either have a pool or have access to one. 2. The traffic implications are not acceptable for anyone in that area. This reeks of a political vanity project and I would urge you to consider killing it. Report phish using the Phish Alert Button above. To Whom it May Concern, As a resident of Newport Beach, I am writing to express my strong opposition to the proposed pool complex at Lower Castaways Park. My concerns are based on the following points: 1) Newport Beach Does Not Need Another Pool Newport Beach residents already enjoy access to several community and school pools, private pools, and, of course, the Pacific Ocean and Balboa Bay. This proposal feels like a solution in search of a problem that doesn't exist. Building a public pool that serves no essential need is an irresponsible use of taxpayer dollars. 2) The $47 Million Price Tag Is Excessive Spending $47 million on a swimming pool is simply outrageous. I've been closely involved in a recent large-scale construction project on the harbor that included extensive subterranean and seawall work, all completed at less than half this cost. Even with a 50% public -private partnership, this proposal exemplifies government waste and inefficiency. Frankly, it would still seem excessive at half the price. 3) A Vanity Project, Not a Community Need This proposal has all the hallmarks of a vanity project. As I'm sure you recall, not long ago, Newport Beach City Council incumbents were voted out of office for building a monument to themselves by overspending on the extravagant City Hall project. Let's not repeat history by pursuing an unnecessary and exorbitantly priced pool. Doing so would indeed leave a legacy, but certainly not one worth celebrating. I urge you to reconsider this misguided proposal and instead focus on projects that serve genuine community needs and represent responsible fiscal stewardship. Thank you for your attention to this matter. Adam Deermount
