Mayor Stapleton and Members of the Newport Beach City Council, I am writing to express my strong support for rejecting the Five Crowns appeal and approving the restaurant's request for a Limited -Term Permit to continue operating its outdoor dining patio. As a resident of Cameo Shores, just down the street from Five Crowns, myfamily and I have enjoyed this iconic restaurant for many years. For anyone who lives in Newport Beach, Five Crowns is more than just a restaurant — it is a cherished institution that has contributed to the fabric of our community for decades. It is hard to overstate how important it is to support local businesses, particularly one that has operated with such integrity, dedication, and positive impact. The restaurant's request for a limited -term permit is both reasonable and well thought out. The owners are not simply seeking permission to continue what they have successfully and responsibly done for decades —they are also committing significant time and resources to address potential sound impacts on neighboring properties. Their proactive approach is a clear reflection of their seriousness about being good neighbors and their willingness to work collaboratively to resolve concerns. As a nearby resident, I also recognize the significant challenges faced by the restaurant industry today. Outdoor dining areas, particularly for special events, are essential for businesses like Five Crowns to remain viable. Removing this opportunity would not only risk the future of a beloved local institution but would diminish the vibrancy and character of our broader Corona del Mar community. For all these reasons, I respectfully urge you to approve the Limited -Term Permit and Coastal Development Permit for Five Crowns and to reject the appeal. Thank you for your thoughtful consideration. Mike Grant 6 Sugar Pine Rd Newport Coast 949-943-4310 Received after Agenda Printed April 29, 2025 Item No. 22 Newport Beach City Council, I was disappointed to see the Five Crowns project has been appealed again after receiving unanimous support from the Planning Commission and the Zoning Administrator. I am writing to offer my full support for the Five Crowns request for a Limited -Term Permit to continue operating their outdoor dining patio. As a resident of Newport Beach and someone who has known the owner of Five Crowns for many years, I can confidently say that this is a well -run, community -oriented business that deserves our support. The owners/family of Five Crowns are upstanding members of the community and have earned the respect of local residents for their dedication to both their business and the well-being of the neighborhood. As an operator, they have always demonstrated a strong commitment to running a responsible and successful establishment that enriches the local economy while maintaining a positive relationship with the community. Approving the continued use of the outdoor patio is essential for the restaurant's ability to stay in business, and I fully support their request. To ensure minimal disruption to neighboring properties, the owners are willing to invest a substantial amount of money in sound mitigation. In addition, the requested operating hours to the proposed temporary outdoor area —closing by 10:00 p.m. at the latest —are incredibly reasonable and considerate of the surrounding residential area. I believe these hours will allow the restaurant to thrive while being respectful of the community. For these reasons, I strongly urge the Council to approve the Limited -Term Permit for Five Crowns. This is a valuable opportunity to support a respected local business that has positively contributed to the character of Newport Beach. Please reject the appeal and support the Five Crowns restaurant. Thank you, Mike Grant Received after Agenda Printed April 29, 2025 Item No. 22 From: City Clerk"s Office To: Mulvey. My name is Brian Swiencinski and I live at 325 poppy Ave. My house is approximately one hundred meters from where all the weddings and special events take place. I can say that the noise from these events has never interrupted my sleep or caused discomfort to me our my neighbors. We welcome a place where the local community can gather and celebrate special occasions together. The owner and staff are like family to me and my wife. I support the restaurant and having special events taking place there. Why are you allowing one disgruntled person ruin it for the rest of CDM. Please call me if there are any questions or concerns. > Best regards > Brian Swiencinski > 713-907-3948 > Sent from my iPad
