At our City Council meeting on May 13, 2025, we adjourned in her memory,
honoring a woman whose passion, generosity, and civic spirit left an indelible mark
on our city,
Elizabeth, along with her husband John, was instrumental in the creation of the
Newport Beach Central Library. Their leadership made the library's 1994 opening
possible, and the Stahr Children's Room remains a lasting tribute to her dedication
to literacy and learning.
Elizabeth's generosity and love of the arts extended to many cultural institutions,
including the Pacific Symphony, South Coast Repertory, and the Orange County
Museum of Art. In 2016, she and John were rightfully named Newport Beach
Citizens of the Year for their decades of service.
Elizabeth will be remembered for her vision, kindness, and unwavering commitment
to bettering our city. She leaves behind a legacy that will continue to enrich lives for
years to come.
Please accept our heartfelt gratitude for all she gave to our city. She will be deeply
missed.
With sincere sympathy,
Joe Stapleton
Mayor
