Report phish using the Phish Alert Button above. Our CdMRA Committee on the Ocean Bluff Walk supports the approval of the PB&R "improvement plan". This plan is a good first step in addressing the much needed upgrades to the worn out elements along this great walk. But please do not call it a "Vision Plan". It is a "Maintenance Plan". It is unfortunate that you may not have had the opportunity to review the "Vision Plan" that was presented to the PB&R Commission in January. It contained all of the items that the City Council requested per Attachment A. There was a lot of time, money and talent in developing the January Vision Plan. It is our hope that you are able to archive the January version of the Vision Plan to be saved for potential long range vista point improvements that will benefit both the residents and visitors. Aside from the plan... The Ocean Blvd Neighbors have a lot of concerns that need to be addressed by the appropriate Departments. • Over whelmed by traffic congestion, noise & crowded walks Why don't some of the beach visitors don't respect our residential neighborhood? F-BL D • Blocking streets & driveways in order to take photos of their fancy cars Large groups and weddings taking up all of the public space in their vans Etc............ ATTACHMENT A Ocean Boulevard Ad Hoc Committee — Improvement Recommendations 4/5/2022 1. Report phish using the Phish Alert Button above. This plaque will honor an important part of Newport's history. Although most people will recognize the name of Duke Kahanamoku, they may not be aware this important surfing action 100 years ago. To quote the Duke: "Big green walls of water were sliding in from the horizon, building up to bar -like heights, then curling and crashing on the shore. Only a porpoise, a shark or a sea lion had any right to be out there. From shore, we suddenly saw the charter fishing boat, the Thelma, wallowing in the water just seaward of where the breakers were falling. The draft appeared to be trying to fight her way toward safe water, but it was obviously a loosing battle. You could see her rails crowded with fisherman who, at the moment, certainly had other things in mind than fishing. Mine was the only board handy right then— and I was hoping I wouldn't have to use it. It was obvious that the Thelma had capsized and thrown her passengers into the boiling sea. Neither my pals nor I were thinking heroics; we were simply running... me with a board and the others to get their boards... and hoping we ould save lives." From Burnett's book "Surfing Newport Beach the glory days of Corona del Mar.
