Dear Carmen and Family,
Erik Kenneth Weigand
On behalf of the Newport Beach City Council and the community we serve, I want to
extend our deepest condolences on the passing of Robert Smith.
At our council meeting last night, we adjourned in his memory - a gesture that only
begins to reflect the profound impact Robert had on our city. From his dedicated
service on the Newport Beach Arts Commission to his efforts in community
development and education, Robert enriched the lives of many with his wisdom,
kindness, and unwavering commitment to bettering the world around him.
We are especially grateful for his contributions to the City Hall sculpture garden, a
legacy that will continue to inspire and bring joy to residents and visitors alike.
Robert's love for learning, his dedication to family, and his thoughtful vision for living
meaningfully into later life left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of
knowing him.
Please know that our thoughts are with you during this difficult time, The City of
Newport Beach honors his memory with gratitude and admiration.
With heartfelt sympathy,
Joe Stapleton
